In Loving Memory

Kristin Nelson Curtis was born on May 29th, 1977, to Donna Lou and M. Don Nelson in Salt Lake City, Utah. From a young age, Kristin was an animal lover and enjoyed riding horses with her family and spending time with Bear the First (dog) and Bear the Second (dog). One of her fondest animal companions was Grayson, a horse that was known for following her around, though that may have been due to Kristin’s habit of letting him drink her Pepsi. From a young age, Kristin enjoyed traveling and got to experience places such as Sydney, Australia, and Vancouver, Canada with her parents. She later went on to travel throughout the United States, greatly enjoying spending time in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Soldotna, Alaska, where she tried fly fishing and had other adventures with her son.
No matter what was going on in her life, Kristin always made sure to make time for others. She was well known for lifting everyone up around her. She made sure that everyone felt as welcome as possible in her home, which was seen by how she didn’t do handshakes; instead, she would immediately hug you as soon as she met you. Kristin would help strangers, neighbors, and family alike, going the extra mile to make sure others were taken care of.
In her spare time, Kristin was an avid reader, often relying on her daughter for book recommendations. She was a wonderful artist and an amazing cook; though if you asked her for a recipe, you’d soon find out that she tended to just wing all of her meals and would simply tell you to “measure with your heart”. She was the family photographer, snapping photos of her loved ones and, most importantly, her dog Luna. When she could, she would make her way up to the family cabin and spend time in the peace she found up there. She could be found taking long walks and surrounding herself with nature. When at her home, which was kept “Kristin clean”, she was a fan of doing intricate puzzles with family, playing card games, or rewatching one of her favorite tv shows.
Kristin’s Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, August 1st, at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy. This will be an open house held between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, so please come any time. A lover of casual get-togethers, we wish to emulate Kristin and ask that you dress in bright colors, bring your well-behaved dog(s) on a leash, and share your stories and remember her with us.
Additionally, we ask that in lieu of traditional flowers gifted to the family, please donate to the Utah Humane Society or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kristin’s name.
Kristin was am amazing friend who never gave up on anyone. For 25 years we watched our kids grow up, sharing our life stories and struggles along the way. She was always the one pushing us to get together, and because of her persistence, we stayed close friends all these years. I will miss her dearl.
Kristin was always such a great friend to my mum and stayed in touch with me as well. I loved tagging along to brunch with her and mum, and was so excited for her to meet my son and husband. Kristin truly was a light in this world and one I already miss dearly. There's a new star in the sky. We love you, Kristin. Rest easy.
Kristin was one of a kind. She was so fun as a kid growing up and always enthusiastic to see me! And she became an amazing mother of two super sharp and gifted children. And watching her care for my widowed mother over the past few years was nothing short of inspiring. She made Grandma Donna's life so comfortable and meaningful. I love you Kristin. I love being one of your favorite brothers. Till we meet again my sister.
I’ll be forever grateful this sweet, bubbly, little lady came up to me at Little Gym and introduced herself 20 years ago while Libbie and Tessa were playing. They were the first friends we made when we moved to Utah - so friendly, fun, and loving.
Kristin loved her family and was SO proud of her kids…every conversation included an update about Austin, Libbie, and the Nelson crew.
She was a character-her laugh, smile, and always ready for the next adventure personality were so much fun to be around.
Kristin always said “love you” at the end of a call or when we said goodbyes -such an incredibly big, loving heart for such a little thing!
I’m going to miss you Kris, but so thankful to have the memories. Cheers Chica!

Kristin was beautiful from the inside and out. She was my best friend. We texted and talked everyday for the short while that God put her in my life. It was absolutely the best year of my life. I loved her dearly. I plan on talking at her celebration of life. So im making this short. I can just say everyday I texted her and every night I talked to her was an honor. She always talked about her mom , her kids and her brothers and family. I honestly can't remember one conversation that we didn't have that she wasn't talking about her family and how much she loved them. I was so heartbroken when I heard the news. Im sure loved ones always do this .... Like im doing to myself. What could of I done different. Could I have talked to her longer that night. Was i missing a sign. I love you Kristin.... Hey you ! It is what it is..... Love you.
Kristen was really outgoing and funny. She will most certainly be missed. She was such a great friend. Condolences to her family!
Growing up around Kristin taught me kindness and respect for all living things. She was always able to notice the beauty in everything around her. Being one of her “other daughters”gave me a lifelong love for cooking, reading, horses, and spending time outdoors. Summer roadtrips with Aunt Kristin meant laughing until we cried, eating homemade snacks and cookies, and Shania Twain blasting through the speakers. If you were ever bored, Kristin always had an idea of something fun to do. She’d teach you a new craft or come up a “gardening game” that, looking back, looked a lot like doing her yard work. Kristin made you feel so loved and always knew how to bring someone into a conversation and make them feel at home. I love you Kristin, we will miss you ❤️

Kristin was our neighbor. Then my friend. We shared a friends book club, a couples dinner group, a mommy and kid play group. Then camping and boating with our families. We drifted apart through life changes, but I will always have fantastic memories of her. Little Kristin with the big, fun, strong personality. Deep condolences to her family. To her sweet Mom Donna. To Dave and Leslie who became some of our dearest friends through Kristin. And especially to Austin and Libby, sincere sympathy.

Kristin knew just exactly how to make everyone feel so welcomed and loved — as if you’ve been friends since the very beginning. From the countless photos of Luna that she would make sure made their way to me, to the generous abundance of TV show recommendations she would share whenever I needed a good laugh — her sincerity and warmth could easily be felt in each and every one of our interactions. She truly was a soul who seamlessly brought so much kindness and joy to one’s life — like a home away from home.
