L. Gary Moore

L. Gary Moore passed away peacefully on August 21, 2021, at his home in Sandy, Utah, with his dear wife by his side and surrounded by all seven of his children. He fought valiantly to the very end following an eight-year battle with cancer. He had such a strong will for life to stay with his beloved wife and family as long as he could.

Gary was born on May 6, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born to loving parents, Lester Owen Moore and Cleone Johnson Moore. He was the oldest of four children.

Gary graduated from Jordan High School in 1961. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Yvonne Lifferth, on October 5, 1962. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. They were blessed with seven children and have been married for almost 60 years.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully in many callings throughout his life, including teacher, High Priest group leader, and a member of the High Council. He especially enjoyed serving with his beloved wife as a senior missionary. They served for over ten years in three inner-city missions where he loved serving the people.

Gary was an excellent businessman and had a talent for sales, always exceeding any goal. He worked for many years in the tire and automotive parts industry and held many high-profile positions. He had several personal business ventures, including opening and running a Sinclair gas station franchise at a very young age and opening his own motorcycle shop in St. George, Utah, in 1973. During his "retirement," he was hired as a store manager at Glacier National Park and excelled in improving the store's sales and merchandising. He loved being in this beautiful part of the country and derived great pleasure from fishing and watching the wildlife.

Gary was brilliant. He was wise beyond his education in all areas such as business, politics, history, auto mechanics, mathematics, woodworking, and life skills. He taught his children the value of hard work and was so proud of the work ethic that they exhibit to this day. He taught his daughters how to change a tire, check their oil, and many other necessary tasks. His hobbies included cars, competitive motocross racing, and motorcycle riding with his family. He always owned a dirt bike and even attempted the Widow Maker hill in Draper, Utah. He was skilled at working with wood and made many beautiful improvements in their home. Even when he was too weak to do the work himself, he loved to help his sons and sons-in-law with building advice which was always much appreciated. Camping with his family was his happy place.
He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He relished debating the younger generation on politics for hours on end, always somehow keeping the upper hand. He was a loving and kind man who was always willing to listen, give good advice, and lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Gary is survived by his dear wife, Yvonne Lifferth Moore, his children, Lisa (Tom) Campbell, Natalie (Jim) Rogers, Valerie (Mike) Waters, Amy (Mike) Peterson, Gary (Heidi) Moore, Alicia (William) Riggs, and Ryan (Holly) Moore. Gary is also survived by his mother, Cleone Johnson Moore, and his siblings Brent (Diane) Moore, Colette Hyatt, and Marlon Moore. He is survived by his 21 grandchildren, Hillary (Alex), Zachary (Becki), Alex (Chelsea), Katie, Madisen (Matt), Austin, Ashby (Stephen), Bronson, Kyle, Seth, Hannah, Weston, Cayden, Mia, Luke, Lucy, Jett, Jude, Emmy, Ammon, Evie, and his 10 Great Grandchildren Oaklee, Ellie, Mars, Nikkena, Harley, Savannah, Grayson, Orrin, Tatum, and Bailey.
Gary will be missed by all. His immediate and extended family loved and adored him. He will be missed by countless people he served in his capacity as a missionary, as well as neighbors, friends, and business associates.

Yvonne spent many years as a loving spouse and devoted caretaker for her dear husband and rarely left his side. She attended to his every need while at home. The family would also like to thank his medical caregivers during these eight years that he suffered from cancer, including Dr. Scott Samuelsen and associates at Utah Cancer Specialists, Dr. Agarwal and associates at Huntsman Cancer Institute, and the caring staff at Intermountain Home Care. A special thank you to Dr. Miner, Sara, Veronica, Calvin, Laura, and others at Elevation Hospice of Draper, who provided such excellent care in his last days.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 11:00 am at the Crescent Ridge Stake Center, 1265 East 11000 South, Sandy, Utah. There will be a viewing held in the same location on Friday, August 27, from 6:00-8:00 pm and prior to services on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 am.
