Jacob (Butch) Gerritsen

1927 ~ 2016

Salt Lake City, UT ‚ Jacob Gerritsen passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at the age of 88, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born March 24, 1927, to Adrian and Wilhelmina Susanna Vilart Gerritsen. Jacob served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II, after which he married his sweetheart, Deloris Wightman, on June 1, 1948. They celebrated 67 years together and dedicated their lives to each other.

He, like his brother Hank, was a humble, hard-working, kind, caring, proud, stubborn Dutchman. Jacob greatest joy was service to others. He would selflessly do anything anyone asked of him. He worked tirelessly for Elias Morris and Sons laying tile and special coatings and at Salt Lake Monument- a division of Elias Morris and Son's for over 30 years and enjoyed every minute of it., followed-by several years at Action Distributing retiring at the age of 77.

He was preceded in death by his parent, sisters Minnie and Johanna and brothers Adrian (Ed) and Henry.

Survived by his children Ajay (Mary) Gerritsen, Mike (Colleen) Gerritsen, Bill (Becky) Gerritsen, all of Salt Lake City, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, sister Catherine (Earl) Reining (Victorville, CA), sister-in-law Gayle Wightman (Murray, Utah), and loving niece Pam (Adrian) Alexander (Salt Lake City). He always greeted us with "Hello, left us with "I love you", and told us he was "Fine, Fine, Fine." So it's not goodbye, it's we love you and know you're fine, fine, fine.

Funeral services will be held on February 12, 2016 at 12:00pm, at the Rose Park 4th Ward building, 800 North 1200 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call prior to the services from 11:00am ‚ 11:45am.
