Weldon Robert Coleman

1932 ~ 2014

Weldon Robert Coleman beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014. He was 82 years old.

Bob was born February 19, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Weldon Sylvester Coleman and Selma Elvira Petersen Coleman. He was the oldest of 6 surviving children.

Bob served in the Air National Guard in 1951 during the Korean War. In 1953, Bob served a 3 year mission in the Uruguay and Paraguay Mission.

After Bob's mission, he studied at the University of Utah where he graduated with a B.A. in Banking and Finance. He also earned a Master of Arts in Spanish and a minor in Economics also at the University of Utah.

Marilyn Lila Wagstaff became his wife on June 11, 1957 as their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Bob's career in International banking started in 1958 as he began working for Citibank in New York City. His career with Citibank also brought him to Brazil where he worked in Porto Alegre, Sao Paulo, Santos and Recife. He also worked for Citibank in Mexico City, Mexico.

Bob served as Mission President, with his wife Marilyn, over the Portugal Lisbon South Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1994-1997.

Bob was fortunate to see many parts of the world. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, attending the symphony and the opera. He had a great love of literature and the outdoors.

Bob was known as a friendly man who always had a smile and a kind word to say. He cared deeply for others and was always willing to serve. He had a fervent testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and was an example to those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, his three children, Rob (Kaylene) Coleman from Katy, Texas, Cosette (Brad) King from Foothill Ranch, California and Melanie (Ian) Johnson from Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by 12 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren and his brothers Leon, Don, Phillip and Richard Coleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lila Coleman Nelson and infant brother, David.

Funeral services will be on Saturday. April 12, 2014 at 12 noon at the Northridge Ward located at 11196 Wasatch Blvd, Sandy Utah 84092. Friends may call on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950E. Dimple Dell Road (10600S.), Sandy, Utah 84092 and Saturday at the ward from 10:30-11:45AM.
