Lane K. Staples, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Sandy, Utah. A man of quiet dignity and unwavering faith, Lane leaves behind a legacy of humility, kindness, and a deep, unconditional love for God and his family. His presence blessed everyone around him.
Lane was born in Idaho Falls, ID to Tunis (TR) and Joy Staples. As the eldest of four children, he grew up in Twin Falls, where he developed the values of hard work and integrity that defined his life. After graduating, Lane served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern California Mission, an experience that solidified his lifelong devotion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Lane met his wife, Joyce (Clinger), while working for IBM in Washington DC (Chevy Chase and Bethesda, MD). After a year or so of dating, they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 23, 1976. Those “back East” years were some of the most memorable years of their single and married lives. Lane and Joyce met dear friends with whom they have kept close relationships to this day. It was also in DC that they began their family before moving West to Tacoma, WA with IBM.
Lane spent the majority of his professional career in facility management. After 22 years with IBM, Lane worked for Shurco, an international insurance company with a large campus in Redmond, WA. He and his family spent 5 years in Tacoma where Lane served as bishop. They later spent 35 years in the Bellevue area where Lane served in a bishopric, several high councils, and as a seminary teacher.
Lane and Joyce raised their six sons in a home filled with faith, fun, and sports. A dedicated father, Lane was often found on the baseball diamond, coaching his sons and sharing his love for the game. Lane’s sons played every sport imaginable, and he loved watching them excel in the sports and activities they loved. He was at every game and
tournament, a steady presence that his boys remember and cherish to this day. When he wasn't attending his boys’ sporting events, he was an avid reader of Louis L’Amour novels and any church book.
In their later years, Lane and Joyce moved to Sandy, Utah where Lane was a faithful member of his local ward. He was a service missionary, serving in the Family History Museum, the Conference Center, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and the Church History Library. He was also a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple and a CES instructor at the Utah State Prison, a job he greatly loved. He found great joy in studying and teaching the Gospel, especially church history. He had a rare gift for making everyone he served feel truly loved and heard.
Lane is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, and their six sons and their families: Tyler (Tanya), Todd (Coleen), Brad (Becky), Rob, Scott, and Sam (Emily). Lane and Joyce were also blessed with 15 grandchildren: Braydon, Bryce, Austin, Jake, Bodie, Lexie, Elly, Sean, Tyson, Anna, Luke, Easton, Breck, James, and Cash. He is also survived by his siblings: Julie Nitzel (Twin Falls, ID), Dan Staples (Twin Falls, ID), and Brett Staples (Twin Falls,
ID). Lane was preceded in death by his father, Tunis Revoe (TR), and his mother, Joy, who passed away in 2025 at the age of 104.
Despite a lymphoma diagnosis that shortened his life, Lane remained faithful and positive to the end of his life, often repeating the phrase, “God is in charge.”
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 28th, at the LDS Meeting House located at 1106 Old Dairy Rd, Sandy, UT 84094. A viewing for family and friends will take place prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. A family graveside service will follow at Larkins Sunset Gardens (1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092).

I remember he loved the scriptures and gave wonderful lessons to so many. We love the Staples and you are all in our prayers!
How we love Lane! We are so sorry that he couldn’t stay longer, and send our sincere and heartfelt condolences. We saw Tyler at Stake Conference and he let us know Lane was close to the end. Such a great man! We wish we could be there with you, but if there is a link we would love to watch the funeral. All our love to Joyce and all the family!
I love Lane, Joyce, and the entire family. Our neighborhood was overjoyed when Lane and family moved into Sandy. Lane gave so much to his neighbors— me. His example of good, will never be forgotten. He truly is a great individual- well done Lane, a strong finish you did have. Enjoy the Heavens… you will always be loved and we will take good care of Joyce— she is so loved by so many ❤️😇🌈😊

What a beautiful funeral today. We are encouraged by the hope the gospel brings through the atoning sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is fitting that Lynne‘s funeral was the day before Palm Sunday. We wish all of you a happy Easter or eternal friends. We love you.
Brother Staples was a great teacher and he will be greatly missed. I loved his Institute classes here at USP.
We love Lane and the Staples family and are better people for having been around them! Sad to hear we lost a good one, but he has passed the torch to a great next generation! Lane was a great example to everyone in our family. Always, calm, cool, collected, and loving. Never a doubt of his faith in God. Our kids were still young before Lane and Joyce moved to Utah. Joyce and Lane were always such a positive support to our kids!
We told our son Ben of Lane's passing last week and Ben's memory of Lane was of being over at the Staples house, about the age of losing teeth. He and he remembered Lane pulling out some pliers telling him he could help with any loose teeth. Always willing to help others in any circumstance! Love, The Cooks!!
♥ Dear Joycee, Tyler, Todd, Brad, Rob, Scott, Sam and families I have been so blessed to be an extended member of the Staples' clan! I so wished I could have been with you on Saturday to commemorate your wonderful dad, but so grateful I was able to be there both in spirit and virtually. Each one of you Staples boys gave such beautiful and fun, memories of your dad. I was so impressed with each of the ways he influenced each of you individually. I will be forever grateful to have been able to visit with your dad last summer while in Salt Lake. When I arrived, Joycee you might remember, you were out exercising with your daughter-in-law. So, I was greeted by Lane and one of his warm hugs and then got about 30 minutes just to enjoy his kind, engaging, and easy demeanor! That is what I remember, he was always kind and engaging and good for a warm hug! But, your whole family has ALWAYS been so welcoming and warm to me and a great source of support and strength. So the legacy of love and service that your dad (and mom) have so wonderfully instilled in your lives on. ♥ Love each and every one of you and pray that in the coming months you will be supported! I always appreciated the warm, loving kindness Lane showed towards me. He would always greet me with a big smile and hug making me feel important and accepted. His gift for emulating Christlike love is something I will fondly remember Lane for. It is something I will strive to follow and share with others along my path in life. Thank you, Lane!
