Margaret LaRee Black passed away on September 18, 2023, in Riverton, Utah. She was born to Walter Glen and Hannah Matthews on February 17,1933 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. LaRee grew up and attended school in Pleasant Grove and graduated from high school in 1951. She married Gordon Steck in September 1953. Gordon and LaRee welcomed a son in November 1954. They later divorced and then remarried in November 1963, but divorced again. She married Jerry Wells in November 1969. He passed away in February 1971. She married Vernal Black in November 1977. They enjoyed each other’s companionship for 36 years, until his passing in December 2013.
LaRee was an incredible seamstress. She sewed wedding dresses for a living, and enjoyed sewing clothes for her nieces and nephews when they were growing up. But her passion was making Barbie dresses for her nieces and grandchildren.
She lived in Riverton with her son and daughter-in-law for the last nine years. She had her grandchildren and great grandchildren say goodbye the day before she passed. She passed away quietly with her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter by her side.
She is survived by her son Larry (Ranee) Steck, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jerry and Vernal, brothers Reed, Earl, Glade, and Dale, and sister Mary McDaniel.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on September 22, 2023, at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT
