LaVelle Luke Morris passed away on July 12, 2023, in Taylorsville, Utah. LaVelle and his twin sister LaVonne were the youngest of eight children. They were born on December 27, 1935, in Murray, Utah. His parents, Luke M Morris, and Rachael John Morris, raised him in the family home on Glenn Street, a house that his father built and where he cherished many fond memories.

LaVelle had an enduring affection for Murray, often sharing stories of his mischievous adventures during his youth. From setting fire to the field that is now home to the Mick Riley golf course to climbing the smokestacks at the smelter, LaVelle embraced life with a sense of humor and adventure.

He frequently accompanied his father and older brother Ben when they were constructing numerous homes around Murray Park. His time at Murray High School held a special place in LaVelle's heart. He actively engaged in various activities, including ski club, photography for the school, and participating in choirs. LaVelle was particularly known for his exceptional swing and fox trot skills, making him a sought-after dance partner. Sadly, this period was marked by the loss of his father when LaVelle was only 17 years old. Nevertheless, he remained connected to his high school classmates and played an instrumental role in planning reunions, including the 50th celebration.

Following his graduation, LaVelle embarked on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas. Subsequently, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as an intelligence officer. It was during his time in the army that he met and married Sonia Ruth Eddington in the Salt Lake Temple. Although they later divorced, both LaVelle and Sonia cherished their experiences living in Okinawa during his assignment there and the memories they made while raising their children.

Upon completing his military service, LaVelle pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Utah. He utilized his knowledge and skills as a systems analyst for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation until his retirement. LaVelle and Sonia's shared love for music resonated throughout their lives, which they joyfully passed on to their seven children and grandchildren. They sang together in the Utah Chorale and frequently participated in musical performances at church events and various gatherings. Music lessons and harmonious family sing-alongs became a cherished part of their children's upbringing.

LaVelle is survived by his children Kurt, Brad (Karcie), Neil (Kyra), Perry (Maria), Teresa Scott (Russell), Tanya Pitts (Brent), and Nora Morris.
Though LaVelle didn't often display affection in traditional ways, his love for his children was evident through his creative approach to providing them with learning opportunities and memorable experiences. They are grateful for the multitude of cherished memories they shared before dementia robbed him of his faculties.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate care providers at Legacy in Taylorsville and Sugarhouse, and the VA facilities, who supported LaVelle during his most challenging moments.

Uncle LaVelle was so thoughtful, always considering my interests and encouraging me professionally. I remember telling him I didn't want to teach but to write, and he would save catalogs and other writing examples for me.

I remember the blender experiments (I think he pioneered the smoothie), the Christmas village, and his beautiful tenor most of all.

Love to all of you at this difficult time.
