LaWayne Jones

1945 ~ 2022

LaWayne Jones passed away at her home in Salt Lake City, UT on March 11, 2022. LaWayne was born June 8, 1945 in Gooding, Idaho to Lewis Wayne and Isabell Hansen. LaWayne spent most of her childhood in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, a place that remained dear to her heart her entire life. LaWayne moved to Salt Lake City, UT in July of 1963 just after graduating from high school. She attended Excelsis College of Beauty. After a short time in this field she went on to work at the Church Office for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for twelve years. There she learned the skills that led her to work as a legal secretary for more than thirty years at the law firm of Cohne Rappaport and Segal. LaWayne always took pride in her work and made sure things were done right the first time.

LaWayne loved her family and found it important to let them know she cared about them. She thought of her siblings often and was generous with her time and resources. LaWayne loved attending family reunions and enjoyed being with loved ones at holiday gatherings. As a result she was often the favorite aunt and great-aunt.

LaWayne was an avid sports fan with a love of BYU football and the Utah Jazz. She was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her clothes at one time. LaWayne had a remarkable memory, especially for dates. She also loved to travel. She was always happy when she had a vacation to look forward to.

LaWayne is survived by siblings Raedene (Dave) Gale, Everson WA, Terry (Lois) Jones, Bellingham, WA, Joseph Lewis (Bonnie) Jones, Rockland, ID, fourteen nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Isabell Jones and her sister Jerri Norton.

A private family service was held at Larkin Mortuary in Salt Lake City, UT and burial at the Hyrum City Cemetery.
