Lawrence Kenneth “Ken” Sayre passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 4, 2020 in Salt Lake County, Utah. He was 85 years old.
Ken was a veteran for the United States Air Force and was proud of his service. He was also proud of his education. He graduated from the University of Utah as a Master Electrician.

Ken leaves a legacy of love for his family and friends. Family is important to him whether you were born in to the family or invited in through friendship. He loved all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed celebrating their birthdays by taking them out for ice cream. He loved his family greatly and defended them fiercely.

He loved to laugh and sing. He always tried to put a smile on your face. He had a unique sense of humor and his jokes are the epitome of the classic “dad joke.” He loved to laugh and could come up with a story or joke and looked for the positive for almost every situation.
When asked “How ya doin’?” he would almost always answer with an enthusiastic “Wonderfarkley swell” or “Fair to half strange.” Either way, you knew he was ok. He lived a full life.

He is survived by his eight children: Kenny (Diana), Lance (Vicki), Llana (Ermelindo) Alva, Jonathan, David, Michelle, Mary (Keven) Sloan, and Thomas, 26 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren (soon to be 6). Ken is preceded in death by his father Herman Sayre, mother Magdalena “Lena” Kemmit Sayre McNeil, sister Ella King, brother Richard Sayre and stepfather Lester McNeil.

Funeral services will be held for immediate family and a few close friends at Larkin Sunset Gardens at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. There will be a small gathering starting at 10:45 AM with services beginning at 11:00 AM.

As always, as a final send off to any conversation, Ken would remind you to “keep smiling”!

Guestbook/Condolences

I am so sorry to hear about Ken's passing. I met him through the Senior Center. I have grown very fond of his humor and friendship. We spoke the day he left the hospital. We enjoyed each others company. He loved to talk and chat about his family and grand life. Rest in peace my friend and keep smiling. Shelly

Ken and I have shared many wonderful hours together at the Midvale Senior Center, long after lunch time was finished! We laughed a lot, shared jokes and tried to outdo each other with the best stories. Guess you might say we were kindred spirits right from when we first met. Our mutual love of family, hard work, great food, music, dance, shared sense of humor and life in general bonded our friendship as we discussed his work, interest in holistic health, electrical work memories performed around the world and life-long friends he met through his travels as well as locally. His pride and love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also beloved topics of conversation: their accomplishments, challenges, visits, activities, values about life...always concerned for their safety and happiness...grateful for blessings received. i will miss our car rides, dining out and long phone chats with my wonderfarkley swell friend! Loved finding out one of his favorite VA nurses was my niece, Kristie. Ken and I thoroughly enjoyed our discussions and excursions with great respect for each others opinions. He will be sorely missed by many others at the senior center for his generous friendship and genuine interest in the well-being of others as well as his daily breakfast meetings at McDonald's with his buddies.
I extend my sincere condolences to his extensive family and know their heartfelt memories will carry them through any sad times ahead. May Ken's integrity, trust, love of life and fun-loving spirit bring you peace, comfort and joy. What a great and fulfilling life you have shared with us all! Rest well, my friend, and keep smiling...which in your case indeed make other's wonder what good and fun things you've been up to! Thanks for the memories! Pearl :)

We appreciate Ken's helpful suggestions for the electrical challenges when he came to our home in Layton; enjoyed talking about his work experiences and best options to move forward. His wonderful sense of humor and gentle observations about life in general were enjoyed by all. I am sure the heavens will be more enlightened (pun intended) as he shares his vast electrical knowledge and willingness to share and help brighten others. Our sympathy and condolences to the family as they celebrate a life well loved and well lived. Would love to hear how the family is doing. He shared a wonderful family legacy with all of you. God bless you all with wonderful memories and cheerful hearts!
