LeMoyne Alan DuPaix

1940 ~ 2023

LeMoyne Alan DuPaix, 83, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away October 31, 2023, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was living under the loving care of his daughter Chere Touhuni and her family in Salt Lake City. The family wishes to express its appreciation for all those who have supported them during this time, including friends and caregivers that assisted Lee during his illness.

Lee was born August 4, 1940 in Bakersfield, California to Clarence Melvin DuPaix and Florence Stirling DuPaix. He spent his boyhood in nearby Tulare, then moved to Huntington Park, California where he finished high school. There he was a noted gymnast, diver, and football player on the school’s teams. Going on to Brigham Young University, he was on one of the school’s earliest gymnastics teams, once participating in a national qualifying meet at UCLA. Lee also served in the Army Reserve during his time at BYU. Following missionary service in the German-speaking part of the Swiss Mission, he met Verna, the love of his life, at BYU. His motorcycle played a role in their courtship. He graduated with a master’s degree from BYU in physical education. Lee and Verna were married in the Oakland, California temple and together they had five children. He and Verna began raising their family in Roosevelt where they ran a restaurant together called the Purple Cow. They later settled in Salt Lake City where Lee became an Unemployment Auditor for the Department of Workforce Services.

Lee was a dedicated family man and enjoyed family vacations to national parks, Europe and Hawaii. An avid athlete, Lee taught his children to swim, dive, and ski. He also coached many of his kids’ youth teams in soccer and baseball. Lee coached gymnastics for many years at Rocky Mountain Gymnastics and loved helping kids progress in the sport, including his daughter Chere. He also helped his brother Roger coach the punters for Skyline High School’s football team. He loved mentoring young people.

Lee was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served the church in various church callings throughout his life. He supported his sons and daughter on their missions, even though it was hard for him to part with them. Lee felt great peace in attending church and loved his Savior.

LeMoyne was preceded in death by his dear wife Verna Rickenbach, and their young daughter Robin. He is survived by his children, Lee, Celeste (Cade), William (Maria), and Chere (Joe); his brothers, Melvin DuPaix and Roger DuPaix; and his grandchildren, Lindsey, Sonora, Cade Jr., Inoke, Kainoa, Makena, William Jr., and Mia.
