After a lifetime of service, Leo George Smith Jr. passed away on August 18, 2023. His parents were Leo George Smith Sr. and Bessie Atkin Smith. Not only did Leo share the same name as his father, but he was also blessed to share the same birthday. The Smith family lived in St. George until Leo Senior’s unexpected passing when Leo Jr. was only 8 years old. Leo’s mother would later marry Rulon W Doman and continue building their family in Orem, Utah. Leo married Beverly Voorhees on February 25, 1957. A temple marriage followed on March 29, 1957.

He received an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious services, a South West Asia Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, and a Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Many enjoyable years were spent as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America where Leo had received his Eagle Scout award. He held numerous LDS callings and was most recently spending many hours in the temple each week performing volunteer service.
Leo was known by his family, friends, and neighbors as a kind, honorable, diligent, and responsible man. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He was dedicated to a life of learning and could often be found reading to increase his knowledge of his profession or for self-improvement. He loved children, animals, and a good bowl of ice cream!
