Leslie George Kappel

Leslie George Kappel took his last flight on January 31, 2026.

Born on July 29, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Les was the son of George and Jean (Sweet) Kappel.

He graduated from Pennridge High School, Perkasie, Pa in 1963. Following high school, he received a NROTC scholarship to Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and graduated December 18, 1966. On December 23,1966, he married Patricia (Norris) of Cincinnati, Ohio with whom he enjoyed 59 years together embracing all of life’s adventures.

On January 2,1967, he started training in Pensacola, Florida to become a Naval aviator. This was the start of his 30-year career in the United States Navy. Les loved flying! He was assigned duty stations all over the world, and made enough memories for a lifetime.

Les is survived by his wife, Patty, daughters, Laura (Scott) Patten, Lynn (Mike) Stahr and Robin Kappel. Seven grandchildren, Connor and Skylar Patten, Nina, Morgan and Michael Stahr, Kamva and Melo Notshulwana, sister Nancy (Jim) Auch.

Les lived a full life as son, brother, friend, husband, father and Naval officer.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4pm on July 25, 2026 at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton, Utah.
