Lilia Pack Martindale was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 13, 1928, to Wehrli Douglas Pack and Ruth Mildred (Fisher) Pack). She died April 24, 2024, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lilia married Edgar Ellis Martindale Nov. 8, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They later divorced May 15, 1978.

Lilia raised her family in Holladay, Utah. Lilia had many callings in her Church and did volunteer work in the community: Primary President, Counselor in Relief Society, M.I.A., Sunday School, Primary Chorister, Spiritual Living Teacher, PTA, U of U Hospital, and Detention Center. She was also Chair for various functions and fundraisers.

Lilia took voice lessons and joined S.L. Oratorio Society, Utah Chorale, and Pro Musica. She started an interior design company and had success in both SLC and Miami. Once she even helped a congressional candidate run for office (he lost but it was great fun). While living in San Bernadino, California, Lilia helped an explosives expert blow up a mountain for a pipeline. She was the powder monkey.
She loved Miami and kept busy designing home and business and working in cut-flowers. She was invaluable as a grandmother, great-grandmother and GG-grandmother. Every link in her family had a personal grandmother reference, the most popular being “Nano.”

Lilia went to extraordinary lengths to stay in touch with those she cared deeply about, which was pretty much everyone she knew. She always kept “Forever Stamps” at arm’s length so she could send a note, letter, or postcard in a moment’s notice. Finally, she loved dining with her family and is hopeful someone will be able to catch her up on all the punchlines she couldn’t hear before.

Lilia is survived by her children Stephen E. Martindale (Karen), Christine Martindale (Glen Watkins), Lisa Hansen (Corey), and Lynette R. Sanjurjo Salgado (Pedro); siblings Wallace D. Pack (Madelaine), Annette P. Frederickson (John), and Melvin J. Pack (Paula); grandchildren Angela, Katie, Wesley, Melissa, Nichole, Tyler, Christopher, Alex, Spencer, Dillon, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren Gage, Trinity, Amy, Rachel, Jeffery, Mathew, Zack, Kanyon, Tegan, and Logan; and five great-great-grandchildren. Lilia is also survived by cousin, friend and alleged twin sister Elaine Barker. Many of their early years were traveled together and Lilia missed catching up, not from want but rather ability.

She is preceded in death by brothers Douglas and Eldon, sisters Lucile, Mildred, and Donna, daughter Karen, son Douglas, granddaughters Tara and Tiffany, and great-grandbabies Nichole & Sioni Makaafi Jr.

A special “Thank You” to Home Instead and their amazing staff, particularly Linda, Bri, Angela, and Sonnet. They made Lilia’s final days as comfortable as humanly possible.

Services will be provided by Larkin Mortuary on Monday, May 13th, 2024, at the University Wardhouse, 951 E. 100 S., Salt Lake City, UT. Viewing 3:00-3:45 PM, service 4:00 PM. Interment at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 Memory Lane, Holladay, UT. This would have been Lilia’s 96th Birthday.

For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom. Click on the "Watch Services" link above.

My dear Cousins:
Googet ((Elaine) cries with you as we miss our precious Mavard (Lilia).
These were our childhood playhouse names for each other as we pretended to live a fantasy life in the back garden of Kentucky Ave or 33rd Ave. I miss her so much and wanted to be with her to celebrate our 96th birthdays together..
Lilia came here first, so I guess it’s only fair that she gets to go to a wonderful new existence first.
I cry with you.and Love you all.
Elaine
