1953 ~ 2025
Linda Ruth Smith Gregory, known to many as “Granny”, 71, beloved wife and mother of West Jordan, Utah, passed away peacefully at her home on June 26, 2025.
Linda was born August 9, 1953 in Sacramento California to James Leander and Wanda Skaggs Smith, where she grew up the youngest of her sisters, Juanita Fager (Bill) and Katie Harsha. She and her sisters were raised by James and Bettie Hughes following the divorce of James and Wanda.
Linda worked for O.C Tanner company for over 23 years and retired shortly after her husband did so he wouldn’t be bored at home all alone. She was so thoughtful that way! She loved spending time with him, whether it was camping, fishing, meeting up with her family for reunions, sitting at the table doing a puzzle, going on a cruise, visiting her kids and grandkids, or her sister who lived in another state. She found joy in adventure with him even if it was just taking a drive out west. If it was together with him, she was in.
When it was nice outside, you could find her out on the deck, taking in the beauty of the mountains and pondering on life. A visit with her usually ended with her sharing a Tab with you and giving you expert advice (a lecture), whether you wanted it or not.
Linda is survived by the love of her life, her husband of almost 50 years, Mike Gregory, children, Hyrum Evans (Emily), Misty Thomas, Shannon Knighton, and Rebecca Gregory. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany, Ty, Josh, Angie, Samantha, Mak, Izak, Collin, Savannah, Abigail, Hyrum Stephen, Emma, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Granny never missed an opportunity to tell anyone that would listen about her grandbabies and how proud she was of each of them.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents Jim Smith, Bettie Hughes, Wanda Skaggs, son-in- law David Thomas, grandson Aiden, nephew Francis Fager, and their beloved dog, Meerkat.
Our family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice for their care and compassion in the short time we worked with them. We would especially like to thank her nurse Mandy who quite literally dropped everything she was doing to come over to check on her and continues to check in on our dad.
Funeral services will be held beginning at Noon on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral beginning at 10AM. Private family committal services will follow at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.
