Lisa Martinez

1957 ~ 2021

Lisa Martinez died peacefully at Alta View Hospital on December 29, 2021 in Sandy, UT after a brief battle with breast cancer.

Lisa was born on October 7, 1957 in Sandy to Calvin and Beverly Elkington. The family moved to Cottonwood Heights in 1965 where Lisa attended elementary and middle school and graduated from Brighton High School in 1976. In high school she excelled at performing in plays, and school drama competitions. She also appeared in plays in the Salt Lake City theater community, including the role of Fredrika in “A Little Night Music” in 1974.

Lisa married Kevin Otteson (divorced) and was the devoted mother of Chris Otteson and Emileigh Otteson, her little angel. As a single mother she worked hard to ensure the best care for her son and daughter. Her son remembers her as a loving mother who encouraged him to pursue his goals. In 1991 she married her best friend, Jack Martinez, who lovingly assumed the role of father to Chris and Emi.

Lisa was a generous and witty individual who gathered multiple friends about her. She enjoyed reading about history. She loved gardening, attending theatre, travel, and her cats. She was devoted to Jack’s children and grandchildren. She frequently cared for loved ones as needed.

Lisa is survived by her son Chris (Megan) and granddaughter Samantha Emileigh Otteson; by her mother Beverly, her brother Mark Elkington (Kim Stauss), nephews Eric Elkington, Dylan Elkington-Stauss and Caleb Elkington-Stauss. Also, by her sister Cherie MacLean (John), nephew and niece Gavin and Erin MacLean. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Emileigh, her husband, Jack and her father Calvin.

Lisa requested no funeral or service be performed. Her ashes will be interred with Jack and Emi and next to her father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Utah or the ASPCA.
