Ljubo Dragicevic

1935 ~ 2024

Ljubo Dragicevic passed away on January 18th, 2024 in Lehi, Utah.

Ljubo was born on July 7, 1935, in Bukvik, Brcko, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, to his mother Joka. His childhood was hard. He grew up during World War II, and towards the end of that war, he witnessed the killing of his beloved mother Joka.

He was sent to an orphanage where he spent the rest of his childhood and teenage years. Following his finishing of locomotive engineer school, he moved to Banovici, Bosnia and Hercegovina, where he worked until his retirement. He was admired for his honesty, dedication, and giving nature in his hometown, and those qualities followed him later in life, as well.

In Banovici, he also met his wife, Jeka. They married in 1968 and together had three children, Gordana, Joka and Vladimir.

In his lifetime, one more war followed him, the war in Bosnia during the 1990s, which forced him to move away from his Banovici, with his wife and youngest child Vladimir. For several years, as refugees, they moved from multiple cities and apartments. After that war was over, they moved shortly back to Banovici, before Jeka and Ljubo decided to go to the United States and reunite with their two children Gordana and Vladimir. Daughter Joka joined them all in the United States in 2018 and for the last five years of his life he enjoyed seeing his family reunited. Being somebody that was an orphan, he cherished his family more than anything. His love was pure; he loved everyone like an innocent child. He was so proud of his kids and grandkids and always had a nice word for everyone. He was somebody that never needed a lot in his life. He would be happy with little but willing to give even that little to others.

His last weeks of life, as his health was declining, his kids and grandkids spent much time next to his bed, and even in those moments he was more worried about them.

He will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife Jeka, kids Gordana and Zlatan Sabanovic, Joka Dragicevic, Vladimir and Vuka Dragicevic, and grandchildren Damir and Sass Sabanovic, Maja and Parker Teagle, David and Aleksandar Lukic, Jelena and Strahinja Dragicevic.

Deda (Grandpa)… we love you and thank you for your selfless love. Until we meet again,

Your loving family!
