Loa Mildred Richardson Whipple 1927-2022 passed away peacefully in the comforts of her home on August 5, 2022. She was 95 years old.
Mildred was born on June 23, 1927 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Shadrach Milton Richardson and Maggie Evans. At five months old, her father died of miner’s lung and left her mother to raise her and her five older siblings. The Great Depression was a difficult time, but with faith, hard work, her older brothers taking jobs in California, and support from Grandpa Evans they made it though.
She attended Spanish Fork High School until they moved to Salt Lake City in 1943 where she graduated from South High School in 1945. She then attended Stevens-Henager College.
Mildred met Richard LaVar Whipple in 1946 while he was on leave from the Navy. They were married shortly after and started their family and Richard Whipple Plumbing and Heating in 1947. Their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. She served for 40 years as the bookkeeper for the business while raising their nine children. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her role as mother was one of the most important things in her life.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she provided service throughout her life. She was always there when someone needed a meal, a loaf of fresh bread, a warm blanket, or a friend. She seldom took time for herself, instead losing herself in the service of her family and others.
Mildred’s life was filled with charity and compassion for everyone she came in contact with. In her later years she donated countless blankets, clothing, hats, book bags, and other hand sewn projects to Primary Children’s Hospital, Humanitarian Services and many other non-profit organizations and groups in need. When she could no longer sew, she began indexing names for FamilySearch where she indexed tens of thousands of names until she could no longer type on a computer. Indexing helps make world genealogical records searchable online.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, her brothers, Milton and Vernon Richardson; her sisters, Margaret Carter, Eunice Richardson and Carol Back; and her daughter Bonnie Whipple.
She is survived by her children, Michael "Sky", Arlyn (Debbie), Dianne Dalton, Karen Suisse (Dave), Linda Drake (Bryan), Kent, Mark (Joni), and Gary (Cindy), as well as 39 grand-children, 48 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She truly lived a blessed life.
The family would also like to thank Katie and Micah, and the other wonderful staff at Valeo Home Health for their year of service to her.
Her advice for us all is to work hard and accomplish the goals you set for yourself. Stay close to the Lord. Learn the principles of the Gospel and live them. Always do your best. Set the example for good in all things.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. with a viewing prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the Salt Lake Riverside Stake Center, 1148 W 500 N, Salt Lake City, UT 84116. Interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
