Lorin B. Hatch

1926 ~ 2023

Lorin B. Hatch died Thursday, December 21, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born April 24, 1926, in Pocatello Idaho. He was the fifth child of Wm. Everett and Lorraine Barrett Hatch. For much of his adult life he was known to friends as Larry Hatch. He married Louise Marie Christensen on December 26, 1945, in Albuquerque, New Mexico while he was in the Navy. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple in April 1947. Louise died in 2015, and he missed her very much. He has 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. They were blessed with four children: Lewis, now deceased, (Margaret); Barrett or Barry (Louise); Dianne (Mac) Mayer and Phyllis (Kyle) Ward.

Lorin graduated from Boise Idaho High School during World War 2 and joined the Navy. He was in the Navy ROTC (office training) when the war ended. He did Navy basic training in the Great Lakes area. Because the war ended, he went to California to help put the incoming ships into “mothballs.” On the GI bill he went to college at Idaho State University, where he graduated in Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist in Kemmerer, Wyoming; Burley, Idaho; Hagerman, Idaho and Twin Falls, Idaho. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in the Young Men’s program, High Priest quorum leadership, ward missionary program, ward clerk and temple worker among other callings. Especially in Hagerman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Louise were avid golfers. He passed along a love of sports to several of his children. One thing Lorin enjoyed for several years starting in high school was playing trumpet in a dance band that had about 4 other instruments. They played big band type music for church and community dances. Thanks to Phyllis, who cared for him in his home full time for the last 2 years.

Guestbook/Condolences

My sympathies go out to you in his family. He always struck me as a kind and sociable man. I liked all of his Family on the few occasions I was able to be with them. I'm sure he now will be watching over you all while hes not busy getting to know his ancestors and complete his callings.
Your parting will be but a short sorrow.
