Lorraine “Raine” Olsen

Lorraine “Raine” Olsen, our beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend completed her mortal journey on August 10, 2021 surrounded by her family. Born February 26, 1957 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Alec and Lucy Mathie, Raine spent most of her early childhood days in Scotland and then Perth, Australia. She moved to the United States at the age of 9 where she resided for the remainder of her life. At the young age of 16 she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart Michael (Reed) Allsop. They were married shortly after and started their life in the Draper, UT area. It was not long before Reed took a job with the Blanding City police department located in San Juan County Utah. Living in the very small town of La Sal, Raine soon realized her dream of becoming a mother and they welcomed their first son, Brandon Allsop. As Reed’s career progressed, they continued to move around southern Utah while also growing their family—eventually adding five additional children (Daniel, Lisa, Benjamin, Stephanie, and Meagan). However, despite best efforts, Reed and Raine eventually divorced. In the years that followed, Raine focused on her career in the airline industry and spent time being the best mother and grandma possible. Then on December 12, 2003 Raine finally married her best friend and life partner David Olsen.

Raine had so many passions and hobbies, among the top being an obsession for scrapbooking. Raine believed in preserving memories so that her legacy and love for her family would always be remembered. She was also very much into music and her gift of song was one of her best qualities. Her house was always filled with music and she would often sing to her kids and grandkids. Raine loved to travel, whether by cruise or motorcycle—she and David loved to explore the world around them. Raine lived her life to the fullest and always worked hard to make sure her family, especially her children and grandchildren, were always cared for and loved. Family was her number one priority, and she would do everything in her power to make sure they were ok regardless of the cost. So, it was especially difficult for Raine when her youngest son, Benjamin (Ben), passed away in 2008.

Not long after Ben’s passing Raine began to struggle cognitively and within a few short years received a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s. While this eventually led to her early retirement from Skywest Airlines (after more than 20 years of service), she fought hard to be with her family and to enjoy every moment possible. She never wavered in her devotion to family, and it was often time with family that would help her achieve the precious moments of clarity and peace that was otherwise being stolen from her.

Although Raine will be missed more than words can express, she leaves behind an amazing legacy that will never be forgotten. Her battle is done. Her wings have spread, and she is finally flying free with the angels.

“She’s Gonna Fly…when her time here is through…first she’ll have to let go…of some things she can’t use. Cuz people and places, memories and faces are just way too heavy it seems…to carry on Angels wings.”

Raine is survived by her loving husband David Olsen. Her children Brandon Allsop, Daniel (Shannon) Allsop, Lisa (Jimmy) Allsop-Shelley, Stephanie (Thomas) Hatrick, Meagan (Dwaine) Allsop-Still. Troy (Angie) Olsen, Bronson (Kelly) Olsen, and Travis Olsen. She was and always will be the doting grandmother and great grandmother to 34 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son Benjamin Allsop, first husband Michael Reed Allsop, mother and father Alec and Lucy Mathie, her sister Irene Stackpoole, and her daughter-in-law Jody Allsop.

The family would like to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to the countless individuals that spent hours and days providing care for Raine. A special thank you to Cheryl Mueller for the years she spent living with Raine and caring for her to the best of her ability.

Services will be held Saturday August 14, 2021 at Larkin Mortuary 3688 W 12600 S Riverton. A viewing will be held from 12:30-1:45 pm followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm.
