Our beloved mother, LouAnn Davis Barney, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2022. Her family was able to spend time with her before her passing. For this we are very grateful, being able to tell her how much she was loved, and how much she will be missed, meant a lot to us.

Mom was born January 26, 1933 in Salt Lake City, one of five siblings; three brothers and one sister. She out lived them all. She moved around a lot as a child due to her father’s occupation, finally settling in Sandy, Utah. She loved school and everything it had to offer. She took short hand and could still remember it. She would tell us if she couldn’t sleep, she would practice short hand in her head. Mom loved to dance, participated in all the school dance contests, attended modeling school and was a contestant in the Miss Universe Pageant.

Mom met her future husband, and our dad, Lynn “Buzz” Barney, in the 7th grade, their friendship turned into a romance. They both graduated from Jordan High School, class of 1951. Two years later, these high school sweethearts wed on November 30, 1953. Solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mom was a very strong person, her family her priority. She told us that she made a promise to be the best mother possible, she didn’t disappoint us. When she was six months pregnant, she flew to Guam, where our dad was stationed in the Navy, to be with him to start their family together. Her parents were against this, but mom wanted this for her family. Mom loved us, cared for us, picked us up when down, and was always there to help us in any situation. She was an excellent homemaker, always painting, wallpapering, refinishing furniture, sewing and cooking. In the summer, you could always find her in the kitchen canning fruit or vegetables that came from either our grandparents garden or her own. She will be remembered in our family for the pie’s, cinnamon rolls, raisin filled cookie, and the magical Christmases at her home. Christmas will never be the same.

Mom had a heart of gold, there isn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for us. Over the years numerous people have entered into her home, to this day, friends from our past will often ask, “how is your mom?”. She made a lasting impact on many people and touched many lives. She worked for First Security Bank for many years. She liked her job, but family meant more to her.

In her later years, mom formed a new addiction; crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and reading a book a month. Our mom was smart, could converse on most topics and was a competitor when it came to brain games.

Mom was an active member of the LDS church, served in many Ward and Stake callings. She read her scriptures daily and had a strong testimony of the gospel.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn ‘Buzz’ Barney, her son, Dana Matthew Barney, three brothers, one sister and parents. She is survived by her son, Kim (Anjie), daughter Becky Ann Bailey, son Chris (Maryann), 8 grandchildren:
McKenna (Blake)
Miranda (Kyle)
Taylor (Shon)
Weston (Cassidy)
Pyper (Jake)
Corbin
Briel
Katelynn
10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 11AM on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy. A viewing will precede services at 10AM. Interment to follow in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.larkincares.com.

So many fond memories of LouAnn as a kid. I remember watching her put pin curls in her hair without a mirror and wanting one of the cool towel robes she would make. I loved hearing her laugh, as it made me laugh. It was one of a kind. She made an impact on me as a primary teacher and it always stayed with me. She gave me one of the best friends I could ever have. I’m thankful for knowing LouAnn and her presence in my life. My heart breaks for her family though, as she will certainly be missed. Sending my condolences to them and prayers for comfort and peace during this difficult time.
