  • Louis Frank Hribar was born December 21, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to Louis Hribar and Emilen H. Schulz. He was the oldest of 3 children. He was also the oldest grandchild on both sides of his family and therefore got lots of attention as a young child from grandparents, aunts and uncles. Lou grew up in Detroit and Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. He and his parents lived with his Schulz grandparents for the first 7 years of his life and he grew very close to them. He often spoke about his childhood and how happy and loved he felt. He loved living with his grandparents and often told stories of his grandma and her kindness and his grandpa who took him to Grace Lutheran Church every week.

He graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in January 1954. While in high school he played basketball, baseball and football each year. He also was one of three valedictorians in his graduating class. He counted his friends from grade school and high school as his oldest and best friends in life. Lou went to the University of Michigan just a few weeks after graduating from high school. He also attended Wayne State for a time so that he could work with a trainer on pitching. He ended up graduating from the U of M in electrical engineering in January 1961. In 1955 he signed a professional baseball contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers and played as a pitcher on their various minor league teams all over the country for five years.

He married Janet Marlene Robinson on December 30, 1961 in Los Angeles, CA. Living in Los Angeles with Janet and Krista, he also had a son, Louis Todd, who died at birth. They moved to Michigan in 1964, where Scott and Karen were born. Lou joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1965. Janet was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1970 and died January 11, 1972. Lou married Judy Lynn Wagner in Torrance CA December 2, 1972 and was sealed to her in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in October 1973. Lou and Judy have three daughters, Catherine, Jennifer and Lori.

In his professional life, Lou worked in the computer industry when it was in its infancy. He also worked as a private consultant in the computer industry. He consulted in data analytics using artificial intelligence in the financial and medical field. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Lou served in various callings including Young Men President, bishop of a singles ward in CA and three High Councils. He especially loved working with the young men and young single adults.

After living in Palos Verdes for 30 years, he and Judy moved to Murray, UT in December 2001 and lived there for almost 14 years. He loved the opportunity that they had while living there of serving as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake City temple for 3 years. In May 2015, they moved to their daughter, Jennifer’s, house in Orem to live in her basement apartment so that her family could help take care of Judy who had been diagnosed with cancer. Judy died in January 2016 and Lou continued to live at Jennifer’s house for 5 more years. In August 2021, he moved to South Jordan to live with his daughter, Lori, who lovingly took care of him until he passed away at her house on February 12, 2022.

Lou is survived by his six children: Krista (Peter), Scott, Karen, Catherine, Jennifer (Rich), Lori (Matt) and 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wives, Janet and Judy; his son, Louis Todd; grandson, Brandon Hribar; brother, Carl Hribar and sister, Ellen Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm and on Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 – 1:30 pm prior to the services.

    Guestbook/Condolences

Lou and I were great friends since the 5th grade. We loved his mild kind manner and followed each other’s lives We spent many years with our families together for NewYears and summer pool parties.
Lou always managed to visit us as Wayne and I moved to our 20 homes. We could talk for hours about our families, sports, “our youth” or his leadership and love for his church.
We will miss Lou’s encouraging manner and our many phone calls through out the years. Love to all of his family.

    With love from,
    Nancy and Wayne Peterson

My condolences to all of the Hribar family. I will miss Louis. I was fortunate to to visit with he and Judy when I was in Salt Lake City in 2015 and also talk with him on the phone more recently. He valued family and family history and I am blessed to be a part of his.
    Your cousin Chris
