  • Lura Sharp Archuleta was born in Clayton, New Mexico on May 15, 1918. She passed away at Stonehenge of American Fork, Utah on July 6, 2021 at the age of 103. Lura married Robert Archuleta in Clayton, New Mexico in 1939 and had seven children while residing in Utah.

She was a mother, devote Catholic, friend, and mentor to all. She was a force to be reckoned with in the best way possible and had a huge heart finding the good in everyone. Being an avid reader, it wasn’t unusual to find her nose in a book learning something new or refreshing her memories on a subject that interested her.

Lura loved to travel and visited many states and a few different countries along her way. She would spend her summer days in the garden with an all-day sucker in her mouth which she claimed would quench her thirst. She loved talking about politics, sports, history and was current on all of her subjects. If you decided to engage in a conversation or a pseudo debate, you needed to be up to date or her keen, sharp mind would prevail every time.

She was a fantastic cook and could whip up something in a jiffy. Her pan fried potatoes and beans were a favorite. Her pies were fantastic as well and it was always a race to see who could have a piece or two of her famous pumpkin pie topped with fresh whipped cream.

As a homemaker raising a large family, it required her to mend, alter, and make clothing. She also made each child their own quilt. Her husband was a welder by trade and made many welded fences in the Salt Lake City area. In her second chapter of life, she took her first job at the University of Utah where she worked as a secretary. She loved her job and talked fondly of the people and memories she made during that time of her life.

She is survived by her children: Corrine (Jack - deceased) Burton, Tauna (Rusty - deceased) Mace, Wilma J. (John Swindle) Miller, Glena (Jim) Bytendorp, and Wendy (Mike) Hales, 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren that she loved dearly. Preceded in death by her father Jessie Sharp, mother Marcellina B. Sharp, brother Sam Sharp, sister Mary Sharp, brother Jessie Sharp, husband Robert Archuleta, and two children: Robert Michael Archuleta, and Dolores (Wayne - deceased) Vawdrey.

Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, 7832 Allen Street, Midvale, UT on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, UT on Monday evening from 6:00 - 7:00 pm with a Rosary beginning after the viewing at 7:00 pm.
