Lynda Lewis Hansen
November 7, 1951 - January 21, 2026
Let it be said as in Dylan Thomas’ poem, I did not go gentle into that good night—I raged against the dying of the light. Despite all my health challenges, I didn’t want to leave my family. I am daughter to J. Will and Sarah Pool Lewis, sister to Annette, wife to Wayne, mother to Jennifer, Greggor and Heather and finally grandmother to 7.
Born in Payson, I spent my first 3 years in Spanish Fork, then California and back to Salt Lake. I graduated from Olympus High 1970 and BYU 1975 in English and Communications, journalism emphasis. On May 30,1972 I married Wayne Hansen living in Sandy for 50 plus years.
I love the written word, reading, theater, travel, the water, the beach, friends, learning, sewing, scrapbooking, southern Utah, disability advocacy and most of all my family. I was an owner of a company, a reporter and retired as a parent consultant with the Utah Parent Center.
The gospel of Jesus Christ has been the center of my life and I loved completing two service missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including copy editor for Liahona magazine. Service has been a guiding principle including PTA, school community councils, LDAU, and the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics. My greatest wish is that at least one life breathed easier because of me.
Preceded in death by parents, sister, and husband. Survived by son, Greggor and daughter, Heather (Matt) Fisher, grandchildren Matthew, Zachary, Jackson, Lincoln and Addison.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Utah Parent Center or Utah Food Bank, two of my favorite charities.
Note: Lynda tucked away this obituary on her computer and in a moment of despair, I (Heather) stumbled upon it, my mom’s answer to yet another desperate plea for help. As her children, we were constantly reaching out to her for help and she always answered the call. It wasn’t unusual for her to drop everything for us to fix whatever mess we were in, encourage us, or just lend a listening ear. She was thoughtful and conscientious and eager to learn. Until the very end, our conversations involved something newly learned and fascinating from a podcast or a documentary. She never, ever stopped learning or thinking about the day’s problems. She was level-headed, a critical thinker, and extraordinarily bright. My mom put some of her personal passions on hold to meet our needs as children, and I will always be grateful she had that opportunity because we needed her; she was the center of our world. We are forever blessed by her sincere love and devotion to our families and to our Heavenly Father. Her ability to act in faith on a prompting regularly improved our preparation for hard things. This obituary is a perfect illustration of her consistent acts of faith; written at the height of the pandemic in 2020 when she was reckoning with the unknown future, she took the time to draft an obituary that was far better than I could have written myself.
In full disclosure, I did edit it a bit, given the four years that have passed since the loss of her husband and our father in 2022, whom she loved and missed so much. We are grateful for the Plan of Happiness and the faith that through the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, all mankind can be saved and live eternally with our families again. The Hansen family extends our gratitude to Rose and the Aspire Hospice team for their compassionate and loving care.
