William Vigo Nelson

1938 ~ 2014

William Vigo Nelson, the very best of men, passed away December 8, 2014, due to the effects of GPA (Wegener's). Bill was born November 11, 1938, to Vigo Taft and Grace Barnes Nelson in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the Student Body President at East High School the same year he was elected "Dream Boy" by his fellow students, a title that he was lovingly teased about for the rest of his life. Bill graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Architecture and went on to design many buildings, spaces and homes throughout the state of Utah, first at Nelson, Johnson Architects and then as a partner at MHTN Architects. His retirement lasted about a month before he went on to start his own practice, working from his office in the beautiful home that he designed and built for his family. He has left his mark and the world is a classier place because of his amazing vision and talent. Bill loved Christmas, nature, great buildings, and chocolate. He was kind, genuine, generous and humble. Bill was a wonderful friend, evidenced by decades-long friendships and the outpouring of love from so many throughout his short illness. He was a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was respected and loved by all he associated with. His faith was rock solid and when he left this earth, he did not fear, because he knew that his treasured relationships would continue. In recent years, Bill has traveled the world and was always looking forward to the next trip. He often went to far off places with friends or his children, and every adventure was shared with his wife and best friend, Linda. Bill was above all else a family man. He was a wonderful father to 6 kids, and never stopped working on keeping his family close to him and to each other through parties, family time, and trips to Lake Powell, Mexico and other exciting destinations. He was a wonderful grandpa who found time and attention for each and every grandchild. He made his grandkids feel that they were the brightest and the most beautiful or handsome of any grandkids, anywhere. He and Linda were the best team that there could be and we can scarcely imagine one without the other. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Vigo and Grace Nelson. He leaves behind his wife, Linda Tuckett Nelson; his siblings, Con (Jone) Nelson, Kathy Nelson and Marilyn Nelson; his children David (Joyce) Nelson, Barbara (Brad) Young, Susan (John) Paulsen; M'Lisa (Joe) Jackson, Angela (Kevin) Moon, and Wallace (Ginny) Nelson; 23 amazing grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 1:00pm at the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 E Mueller Park Road, Bountiful. Viewings will be held at the same location Friday, December 12th from 6-8pm and 11:30am-12:30pm on Saturday. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful. In lieu of flowers, Bill would ask you to love and serve one another.
