Hannah Lucile Egelund Hinmon

1923 ~ 2014

Hannah Lucile Egelund Hinmon, 91, peacefully left this life on July 13, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on April 2, 1923, to Isaac Peter Egelund and Ruth Condie in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Lucile spent her childhood years in Salt Lake City and as a young teenager moved to a farm in Granger. She graduated from Cypress High School and then attended nursing school. She married Thomas Porter Hinmon in 1942. They later divorced.

Lucile had a deep love for music. She taught herself to play the accordion and the piano in high school, and later in life cherished the time she spent singing in her rich alto voice with the Sweet Adelines. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was Junior Sunday School chorister and Sacrament meeting chorister for many years, and she directed the Singing Mothers choir in her ward.

Lucile worked hard all her life, first raising five active children, and then in the workforce. Among many positions, she helped start the 911 emergency system in Salt Lake County. A child of the depression, she was a resourceful woman and a careful steward with her funds. Over the years she acquired real estate and financial reserves that supported her throughout her life. She taught her children the value of education, self-reliance and independence.

Lucile lived 25 years in La Mesa, California, where she loved visiting Point Loma, walking on the beach, inhaling the invigorating ocean breezes and eating fresh seafood.

To the very end Lucile was constantly aware of people and their needs. She would sit next to total strangers and within a few minutes they were friends. She saw the good in everyone. She was creative and loved to develop new ideas. She was a co-founder and secretary of the Intermountain Society of Inventors and Designers.

Lucile leaves a sister, Lillian Lindley (Don) of Manhattan, Kan., and a brother, Tom Egelund (Sherolyn) of Brigham City, Utah; children Ruth Clawson (Frank) North Salt Lake, Utah; Tom Hinmon (Diana) Laguna Beach, Calif.; Jim Hinmon (Lupita) Magna, Utah; Dan Hinmon (Sandy) McMinnville, Ore.; Anne Ebert (Bill) Las Vegas, Nev.; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers Clyde, Rulon, Stan and Don Egelund.

We want to thank the caregivers at Abbington Memory Care and Hearts for Hospice for their loving care of our mother in her final years.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Larkin Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, with interment to follow. Family and friends may attend a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Online condolences at www.larkincares.com
