Janice Lorraine Thompson Skrede

1927 ~ 2013

Janice Lorraine Thompson Skrede passed away on December 20, 2013 at the age of 86 in Sandy, Salt Lake County, Utah surrounded by her family. She was the third child to be born to Leonard Thompson and Edna Van Dyke on June 28, 1927 in Jefferson, Vernon County, Wisconsin. She married Clayton Odean Skrede from Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin on August 16, 1946, and they were the proud parents of three daughters.

Janice's life can be summarized by the word "family." She loved her husband, her daughters and all of her family. She and her husband were very loyal to family traditions and loved to return to their hometown to visit grandparents, parents and other family members. They were always happy to go home to their family in Wisconsin and often did. This tradition of loving to be with their family was ingrained into the lives of their own children and it could be said that they were "always" there for their children in every way and they became a huge influence in the lives of all family members.

In their retirement they traveled and they loved to go to Cedar Key, Florida, where they enjoyed time with friends---they became snowbirds and they just loved that lifestyle and their Oceanside home where dad could fish and mother could paint. On their return trip they would swing by Wisconsin and then they would return to Utah for six months to be with and love their daughters and grandchildren.

Janice is survived by her three daughters: Cheryl (Richard) Willey of Sandy, Utah; Lana Newberg of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; and Janet (James) Grant of Sandy, Utah; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. Janice is also survived by three sisters: Jean (Thorwald) Peterson, Jerry (Kenneth) Kellicut, and Bernice (Bud) Campbell. Janice was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Odean Skrede on May 16, 2009. She has three siblings who preceded her in death: Dwaine (Marion) Thompson, Don (Lois) Thompson, and Joyce (Ken) Bolt.

Special thanks are extended to the Intermountain Medical Center Intensive Care Unit and to Community Nursing Services for their excellent care.
