David Albert Garside

1930 ~ 2013

David was born in London, Ontario, Canada March 22, 1930 to Charles William and Ella McColl Garside. He attended Wortley Road Elementary School and South Colligate High School. He married Rosemary Ethel Irene Lawson on April 1st, 1950. David started his career in finance at the Dominion Bank and later at the London Life Insurance Company and Canada Trust. His employment took him from London to Victoria, British Columbia, where he and Rosemary found and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1960. From Victoria business took them to Winnipeg Manitoba. In 1963 they with their four children (a fifth was born in Utah) moved to southern California, and from that time on they lived between California and Utah. He turned his hobby into a business of locksmithing and security. He had shops in San Pedro, Carson and Ventura California. They acquired a small fun farm in Terra Bella, California where they spent many long weekends and vacations enjoying boating and waterskiing. In 1984 Dave started a thirty year long difficult battle with cancer and heart problems. He was never able to return to the business he loved. Doctors and hospitals became the dominant activities for the next thirty years. Because of a multitude of miracles, the business continued and his sons, Jim and Alan were able to continue managing the shops until this time. Doctors advised them to move to Utah to be near their three daughters in case of medical emergencies. They did so in 1988. From 1988 until 2012 they spent winters in Palm Springs, California or St. George, Utah. From 2012 on they were full time Sandy, Utah residents. Dave was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many callings over the years.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rosemary, children Jim (Cindy), Linda (James) Boud, Marlene (Fred) Smith, Diane (Tom) Mohr, Alan (Cristen), sister Eunice (Rolf) Frick. He is preceded in death by parents Charles William Garside, Ella McColl Lawson Garside and brother James Douglas Garside. He has 26 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.
