Marcia Claire Crofts McClain

1946 ~ 2021

Marcia Claire Crofts McClain was born on January 6, 1946 in Portland, Oregon, the youngest of four daughters of Alicia Irene Dansie and Hyrum Crofts. She passed away peacefully on Saturday evening March 6, 2021 at 7pm surrounded by her family at her home in Draper.

Marcia is a descendant of early Utah pioneers on her mother’s side and her father was an immigrant from England to Utah at the age of 10. Marcia grew up in Menlo Park, California, graduated from BYU and taught school for several years at Olympus Junior High in Holladay, Utah before marrying Jerry Glynn McClain in 1974 in the Oakland Temple and moving to New York City.

Their first son, Ryan, was born in Greenwich, Connecticut and the McClain family moved to Salt Lake City in 1977 where Christopher and Jennifer were born. Marcia was a terrific mother and expended most of her energy caring for her family, but still was able to spend a little time with her art projects. She was an accomplished artist, but her art was intended just for family and not the world. Marcia oversaw the family’s many moves through the years, as transfers took them to the Boston area, back to Utah, then on to Jakarta, Indonesia before they decided to retire in Utah. Marcia then took the opportunity to become a tour guide for organized tour groups from around the world, showing them the sights of the Salt Lake area and taking them to a performance of the Choir at Temple Square. She also continued her artwork, taking in students at her home art studio in Holladay.

Marcia was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership capacities, including Relief Society President and Primary President. Her sweet personality and even temperament won over many people who came to love her.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, and three children, Ryan Nathan (Tiffany), Christopher Sean (Christine) and Jennifer Eran (Jason McCann) as well as five grandchildren, Sean Ryan, Brea Christine, and Daxon Christopher McClain, Dorothy Eran Merle and Henry Arthur William McCann. She is also survived by a sister Shirley (James) Monroe. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Dorothy (Todd) Britsch and Beverly (David) Fuhriman.

Services at Larkin Mortuary of Riverton will be for immediate family only.

Friends and extended family are invited to participate via streaming in consideration of Covid-19 regulations on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. MST.

Interment will be in the Herriman City Cemetery.

Dear Jerry, we are saddened at your loss and wish you to know of our affection for you and Marcia. We remember when you were our home teachers! Great days when we were all more physically vibrant. As for now, obviously Marcia is in a locale where she is physically vibrant and alive in mind and spirit! What a great consolation to know of gospel truths. But it does not mean that no sorrow or hurt is erased here in mortality, especially for the spouse. May the peace of heaven be upon you! Your friends, Jay and Janet Todd

I'm so sorry to hear of Marcia's passing. I never met her but neighbors have told me of the wonderful woman she is. Her love of art is living on in her art studio here. I'm honored to paint where she painted.

Jerry, Ryan, Christopher and Jennifer. I want you to know that I love all of you including your dear wife and mother. She set such a great example to all of us of kindness, generosity, humility and elegance. She, in deed, was the complete package of womanhood and motherhood. My thoughts and prayers will be with you not only today, the day of her memorial, but in the days that come as you begin to adjust to her being gone. I believe she is having a glorious reunion with her parents and others and is now free from her earthly challenges. I believe that you and all of us will see her again in the future.

We will all miss Marcia. What a sweet, compassionate person she was. I remember my mother telling me how Marcia helped her when she was unable to do a lot of the day to day shopping. Marcia just made it a priority to help my mother—running errands, grocery shopping...whatever her needs were, Marcia was there with a helping hand. She was a lovely woman with compassion and a willingness to serve those in need.

She was also a wonderful sister-in-law and sister to my late wife, Beverly. We’ve had so many fond memories together. She spread joy wherever she went.

Love,
David Fuhriman

Dear Jerry,
It’s probably been 35 years since our paths crossed in the Worcester Ward. I just happened to see you on FB today and was going down memory lane as I scrolled to see that Marcia had just passed. She was such a great example of grace to me! Oh what a loss for your family and you! So thankful for the knowledge that she has passed from your arms to her parents and siblings who with the Savior have prepared a place for her.
May you have the strength to endure this separation.

Jerry, Ryan, Christopher and Jennifer,
Sending my sincere love and condolences to you as I have just learned of the passing of Marcia last year. I knew your family as a young mother many years ago in Massachusetts. We served in the Primary Presidency together in the Worcester Ward. I learned so much about graciousness and love from her. She was my mentor and my friend and made a challenging time in my life so much more beautiful and sweet. I am forever grateful our paths crossed. And Im happy to think about how you three kids have grown up and had children of your own who will carry her light on thru the generations! My love to you all.
