Marilyn Egbert Strong

1934 ~ 2022

Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Marilyn Egbert Strong, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her daughters, on March 28, 2022.

Marilyn was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 19, 1934, to Thelma Henderson and Earl Richard Egbert. She was the fourth of eight children and has fond and cherished memories of her life in Salt Lake City, where she spent her childhood. Marilyn attended Hamilton School, Roosevelt Junior High, and East High School.

Marilyn met the love of her life, Lynn Strong, during her teenage years while attending youth events put on by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They became great friends and eventually fell in love. They were married on August 16, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple. Not long after they were married, they had their first baby, Sherrie. Their daughters, Bonnie, Julie, and Tammie soon followed. Marilyn was incredibly proud of her girls and being their mother was one of her greatest joys and accomplishments.

Marilyn was a hairdresser for 10 years, worked at Roosevelt Elementary for 12 years, and had many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In each of these capacities, Marilyn found lasting friendships that she cherished very much. Lynn and Marilyn served a full-time mission for the Utah Salt Lake City Mission in the office. They also served together in the Jordan River Temple, as well as the Utah Food Bank. Marilyn loved to serve and had much joy in those callings.

Of all her callings in life, she found the most joy in her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a master of entertaining and loved to cook or bake for those she loved. Among her favorite things was spending time at the cabin in the Uintah Mountains with her family and friends. We will miss our sweet mom and grandma dearly, but we know she has been reunited with her sweetheart, Lynn. The family would like to thank Inspiration Hospice, Sunrise of Sandy, and Harmony Hills of Draper for their kindness and tender care.

She is survived by her four daughters; Sherrie (Rob) Alston, Bonnie (Mark) Paulsen, Julie (Denny) Couton, and Tammie (RD Wood) Beach; her 15 grandchildren (and spouses); 51 great-grandchildren (and spouses); 8 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 12 step-great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Pauline Lloyd, and Karon (Leland) Sullivan. Preceded in death by her sweetheart, Lynn, her parents, and her siblings, LaWana, Dale, LaDene, Don, and Darrell.

Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah at 11:00 am. Marilyn my dear friend and member of our ward for many years. She was a great lady and a sad day for all of us when she moved. We spent many happy and fun times in her home when she hosted our Family Home Evening. I am very sorry for her passing.
