Marilynn Branath

1935 ~ 2024

On the evening of Sunday, March 17, 2024, Marilynn Branath, a globetrotting adventurer boarded her final flight and flew over the rainbow. She was independent, determined, feisty, frugal, venturesome, charitable, and friendly. Marilynn was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was born to Gomer and Mable Brown on November 12, 1935, in Midvale, Utah. She married Jerry P. Kalm (later divorced) and had two daughters Lynda (Bob) Mullins and Pam Frostad. She later married Herman Branath and they had many great adventures together until his death in 2021.

Marilynn’s strong will and determination helped her to return to school after her divorce and get a degree in travel tourism and marketing. She became a flight attendant and travelled all over the world. Some of her highlights were climbing Machu Pichu, walking on the Great Wall of China and snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. Marilynn enjoyed sewing and quilting with her quilting machine. She made many quilts and blessing dresses that are cherished by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings during her younger years while living in Columbus, Ohio. She enjoyed serving in her community and loved her time volunteering at Capital Theatre for the ballet and opera performances. Marilynn enjoyed time in the mountains and when her family was young much of that time was spent boating, camping, water skiing and snow skiing. The Spruces in Big Cottonwood Canyon held a special place in her heart. It was her mother’s favorite family spot and a site of peace that she returned to often.

Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents and her spouse Herman. She was also preceded by her siblings Dale, Jackie, Carol, Jack, and John. She joined her siblings in heaven on Sunday evening for the celebration of her oldest brother Dale’s birthday. Surely, she didn’t want to miss the party. Marilynn is survived by her two daughters, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild with one more to join the family in the next few days.
