  • Marion was born in Manti, Utah June 8, 1929. In spite of being born during the Great Depression, she was the darling of her family and never felt deprived, being the middle daughter between two brothers, Glade and Karl. Her loving parents, Glenn and K Jensen, moved to Salt Lake City, then to Provo, where Marion went to Farrar Junior HS and Provo High School, where she played Daisy Mae in Little Abner and graduated first in her class. She went on to graduate from BYU.

Marion married Bob Dean in 1952, and they had four children, Rebecca, Alison (Chris Anderson), Adrienne (Ryan Heinz) and Robert, who died at age 6. They divorced in 1963, which prompted Marion to get her teaching degree and she taught Home Economics, including the first cooking classes for boys, at Highland High School. She loved her students and enjoyed her career very much, retiring in 1993.

Eight years following her separation, Woody Sybrowsky came into her life, and they married in 1971. They were very happy together, enjoying going out to dinner, to the movies, and traveling. Woody, who was widowed, also had four children, Dennis (Carol), Roger (Lise), Kathleen and Layne (Jody), and Marion was instrumental in encouraging a great alliance between the families. She held monthly Sunday dinners, where the grandchildren of both families became members of the “clean plate club,” celebrated birthdays, and became friends.

Woody died in 1994, and although Marion missed him sorely, she was never interested in dating again; she continued to be a vital part of her family’s life. She played bridge monthly for many years and was a charter member of her study club, which began in 1958 and is still going strong—Adrienne and Alison joined in the 1980s and loved attending with their mom. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, teaching Relief Society for many years; she felt free to diverge from the manual and often referred to her lessons as “programs.”

Marion was an avid reader, made quilts and many, many counted cross-stitch projects, and loved attending Pioneer Theatre. She was a wonderful cook, expressing her boundless energy and love for others by creating and serving delicious food. She loved chocolate, Diet Coke, and a good joke (or a racy one).

Marion lived in the same lovely home in Holladay since her marriage to Woody; two years ago she moved to Crescent Senior Living in Sandy, where she died Monday, December 7, 2021

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road in Sandy with a visitation prior beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment to follow in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pioneer Theatre.

    Guestbook/Condolences

Marion was such a delightful force in my life. Her friendship was important to me. We were neighbors for a few years and her children were friends of mine. Tamara, Michelle and Kirstin have many fond memories of Marion and her family. It was always fun to become involved in one of her many projects.
I send my condolences to her family and want you to know that we loved her and think of all of you with cherished memories.
