Marjorie Bird

1935 ~ 2024

One of heaven’s chosen angels was called home on the morning of Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Marjorie Bird, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. She was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer just three days prior to her passing. The news came as a shock to Marge and the family. Her prognosis was that she would have anywhere from two days to two weeks to live. It was a blessing that we were given enough time to have the family gather around her. We each had an opportunity to express our love and appreciation for her and for the many acts of love and
kindness she did for each of us.

Marge was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leland and Golda Jenkins on October 22, 1935. She was the fourth child of five children.

Mom grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. In her younger years, she taught herself how to sew and made some of her own clothing. She later used this talent to sew, create outfits, costumes, quilts and other special gifts for her children and grandchildren.

She married her sweetheart, Gordon Bird on November 11, 1955. Together they had three children; Brad, Greg and Shauna.

Marge was a stay-at-home mom during the early years of raising her children. In 1972, she began working as a medical office manager for Dr. John R. Ream and Dr. John M. Provost at St. Mark’s Hospital. With her organization, office and people skills she was very efficient at running the office until she retired in the mid 1990’s.

Marge and Gordon were sealed to each other and their children on June 12, 1980, in the Salt Lake Temple. She served in the Relief Society and the Young Women’s organization. Marge had a heart of gold and desired to donate her time and talents to help anyone in need. She gave to charities and created quilts to be donated to local shelters.

Mom was the glue that kept our family together. She loved to open her home, hosting parties and holiday gatherings for family and friends. She made these events very special, going above and beyond with decadent food, beautiful decorations and fun-filled activities. She also loved to travel with her family. Creating additional opportunities for the family to become closer. One of the highlight events that Marge and Gordon provided was their 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary Cruise on the Royal Caribbean “Jewel of the Seas.” These many parties and trips
made for very special bonding memories that their children and grandchildren will cherish forever.

Nothing made Marge happier than attending baseball, football, and lacrosse games, dance performances, cheerleading competitions, and beauty pageants for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The unfortunate decline of her eyesight prevented her from continuing to be at all these events in her later years, but she always made a point to wish them luck and celebrate their victories.

She loved her two furry babies, Remi and Roni. These Cavalier King Charles pups gave Marge great comfort and companionship in her later years.

Marge is survived by her 3 children: Brad (Margene) (former spouse Teresa), Greg (Janet), and Shauna Nelson (Scott). She also has 8 grandchildren (Tyler, Julia, Connor, Colby, Chelsey, Courtney, Karli and Preston), and 11 great grandchildren. Marge is preceded in death by her husband Gordon Bird, parents Leland and Golda Jenkins, brothers Lee and Bill Jenkins, sisters Shirly Greene and Sharon Harward.

Funeral services will be held and Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah on Saturday, January 13, 2024. A viewing will be held at 1:00pm followed by funeral services at 2:00pm

I was so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. She really had a sweet caring spirit. I knew her in Legacy Retirement Center where I visited her several times. I remember how much she loved her family and talked about you with pride. So happy that she can be with her sweetheart again and pray that you might have comfort in knowing that she can still remain close to you in your heart and will always love you. She had a life well lived.
