Marjorie Jean McKee Peterson, age 89, passed peacefully into the arms of a loving heavenly father on February 29, 2024, surrounded by family and angels to carry her home. She is loved by many and will be dearly missed by family and friends. She is a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with her posterity numbering 91. She has a deep unconditional love for each and every member of her family and many close friends. She is a kind and caring person; she shared a smile with everyone she met and wanted to get to know you.

She was born to Herald McKee and Anna Belle Guymon McKee on March 31, 1934, in Orangeville, Utah. She was the second of six children, Delores, herself, Reese, Larry, Earl, and Jim. Whom she dearly loves and always will, and they love her.

She met the love of her life while in high school, Lloyd Peterson, she once jokingly said that he spent more time at East High than at his own school. After graduation, they married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1954, enjoying nearly 70 years of marriage together. They welcomed 5 children through this union, Aaron, Scott, Craig, Brad, and Lynette.

A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many capacities in Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary over her years of service. One of her favorites was helping with the “Road Shows” and serving on the activities committee in the ward. Many years were spent as a sports director, and a youth camp/young women's camp committee member. She helped each one of us in whatever we chose to pursue in our lives, whether it was helping in Scouting for her sons or coaching her daughter’s Bonnet Ball teams, including the many other activities we participated in. We all knew she loved and supported us wholeheartedly.

Family time meant a lot to her with the many vacations and outings with family. Loading up the trailer and camper to explore, fish, and ride motorcycles (the boys that is) while the kids were growing up. She enjoyed camping at their property in Pine Meadow Ranch, commonly referred to as “the property” in their trailer that they owned for many years. Cadillac campground set up for many trailers, not necessarily roughing it by any means. The many years of deer hunting trips with extended family were always a memorable experience for all. Attending many family reunions in Ogden Canyon for 3 days of non-stop fun making everlasting memories.

One of her favorite pastimes was bowling, she dearly loved it. Many people have fond memories of their experience bowling with her. She enjoyed spending time with Dad at classic car shows, they brought their cars as well and won many awards. She enjoyed serving others and was one of the first to offer help if needed. Her beautiful smile could light up a room and bring joy to all those around her. Her home was welcome to all, and she enjoyed having family and friends come by. She always had toys and games for the kids to play with and loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She loved the 50s and big band music. She loved singing and sang in choirs in her youth. She never missed a birthday, with a card and phone call with her and dad singing “happy birthday” in their best voice of course. She wanted to let that person know how much she cared and how special they were to her. Her calendar is a “who’s who” of every family member’s birthday.

She cooked dinner most of the time, but when we did go out much of our time was spent eating pizza at “Shakey's”, a good hearty steak at Sizzler (not as good as Dad though), fish and chips at Bratten's Fish House and Neils, and a wonderful dessert at Snelgrove's or Fernwood’s for a good bowl of ice cream (Dad’s favorite). Many a late dinner was served growing up, because that was when everyone was home, and we ate as a family.

Holidays have always been a special time for her, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, not to mention the Super Bowl. Thanksgiving with her fine China and well-dressed tables seating up to 30 people was the norm. She was a good cook and enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for the family. We always looked forward to Christmas, the games, the food, the presents and the company. She always made it enjoyable for everyone, the best part was the paper fights that followed. Each year for New Year's Eve she would have a shrimp fry with all the trimmings for all to enjoy, there was something for everyone., She held the best Super Bowl parties in town, even if football wasn’t your thing, it was time well spent with family and we did not leave hungry.

She is survived by her husband (Lloyd), 5 children Aaron (Connie), Scott (Linda), Craig (Carolyn), Brad (Shona), and Lynette Banks (Gordon), 33 grandchildren including spouses, and 48 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Herald and Anna Belle, brother Reese, and sister Delores.

Funeral Services will be held at the Cottonwood First Ward, 5913 South Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah March 7, 2024, at 11:00 am. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the same location and from 10:00 to 10:45 am on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, 84092.

What a wonderful and delightful person. Having had the privilege of being introduced to Marjorie a couple of years ago was a true joy. Her passing is such a shock, but there is comfort in knowing she is at peace. May the blessings of the Lord be with Lloyd and the entire Peterson Family at this time.
