Marjorie Riches Gunn

1928 ~ 2023

Marjorie (Marge) Riches Gunn of Salt Lake City, was born on August 5,1928 to George Washington Riches and Emma Jane Griffiths Riches of Smithfield Utah. After high school she moved to Salt Lake and went to Business College, then joined the U.S. Foreign Service. She spent many years in London and Stockholm working at the embassies where she met many lifelong friends.

When Marge moved back to Salt Lake, she became Executive Secretary in the Department of Medicine at the University of Utah Hospital where she met and later married Francis Dowden Gunn. Her husband was a former chair of the Department of Pathology (1945-53). She has been an active supporter of the University and generously donated to awards for student excellence in Biochemistry. Marge loved to travel. She seemed to always be going somewhere around the country or world with her many friends from near and far. She loved opera and ballet, she also loved stage plays and art exhibits and attended whenever she could.

She is going to be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved her. She is survived by her nieces Nancy Senter and Cathy Buehler of Los Angeles, CA; Marla (Kim) Parker of Smithfield UT; nephew Alan (Ruth) Riches of Logan UT; plus five great nieces and nephews and five great-great nieces and nephews.
