Marlene Louise Stubbs

Marlene Louise Stubbs graduated to her eternal home on the morning of August 22, 2023. Born March 5, 1938, to Rudolph Franklin and Irene Lillian Vogt in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mom married her eternal companion, Graham George Stubbs, on March 24, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple. It was officiated by Marion G. Romney. They met when both were employed at Z.C.M.I. in 1957. She was a clerk at the health food counter, while Dad was a delivery driver for the department store. They went to Lagoon on their first date. After dancing to the music of Nat King Cole and drinking a bottle of Coca Cola, they knew they would spend the rest of their lives together, but not before Dad served his mission in his home country of England. Mom waited patiently for him, writing him every week while helping care for her future father-in-law, who was battling multiple sclerosis. She would spend her free time with the “Missionettes,” a group of young women waiting for their missionaries to complete their service and return home to them. Mom treasured the time she spent with the “Missionettes.” She later became employed with Mountain Bell, working there for five years.

Mom and Dad moved into their first home in Bountiful on 425 West and shortly after, they welcomed their first child, Scott, into the world. Six years later they were blessed by the birth of Tracy Lynn and their little family was complete.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mom served unselfishly in many callings, including the Primary, Sunday School, Cub Scouts, Mutual (M.I.A.) and as a librarian. She loved working with kids and spent countless hours creating flannel boards and pull charts. Mom was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed creating handmade items for others. She was always excited to give the children their gifts! She taught the kids how to make string art, macaroni pictures, cross stitching and wood working projects. If she could think it up, she would make it happen. Mom was always willing to take on a new project, and used our entire family to finish it!

Mom’s service opportunities changed when she took on the monumental task of caring for her own mother who battled Alzheimer’s for six years. She got up very early each morning and made sure our home was clean before heading to the nursing home to attend to her mom. She would return home and do her mom’s laundry, then, back to the care facility to load the dresser drawers with fresh smelling clothes and blankets and spend more time with her mother. Even after her mom’s passing, She continued to return to the nursing home for several years to chat with, and assist the residents. This was such a blessing to those who didn’t have regular visitors. They were an extension of her own family and she treated them with much love and kindness.

Marlene has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and she loves them so much! Showering them with gifts on their birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, July 4th, Halloween, Arbor Day, New Years... any holiday was an opportunity for Grandma to spoil her grandkids!
Dad and Mom also enjoyed going to Disneyland and Walt Disney World with their family. Every time, scheduling an afternoon to take each of their grandkids on a walk down Main Street U.S.A., shopping for souvenirs they could take home to remember their trip.

Her grandkids have wonderful memories of their time spent with grandma. These include walking up to the State Capitol Building in the summer heat. Knowing that grandma’s purse was always full of treats was the incentive to make it up that hill! Hot turkey sandwiches at Little America. Trips to the zoo, museums, gardens, the Aviary at Liberty Park, train rides in Heber City, visiting Kennecott Copper Mine, and lots and lots of baths!

Marlene is survived by her husband Graham, her son Scott (Evette) Stubbs, Daughter Tracy (Dale) Harris. Her Grandchildren Kyle (Natalie) Stubbs, Alec (Treva) Stubbs, Riley (Kate) Harris, Haley (Brock) Minhondo, Brittany (Spencer) Henrie, Tyler Harris and Micala Harris. Great-grandchildren: Emma, Rebecca, Hazel, Lucy, Penelope, Kayce and Olive. Preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Irene, Beverly (sister) and Frank (brother).

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at the Ward Canyon LDS Ward located at 540 North 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the same location. Viewing prior to the funeral from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy Utah.
