Marlene Poulson James was called to the rest and reward she had pleaded for on March 2, 2025, at the age of 78, and due to complications related to hepatic encephalopathy. Marlene was born October 26, 1946 to LaVoy Haight Poulson and Twila Rae Bredsguard Poulson in the Sevier Valley Hospital (the old one).
She graduated from Richfield High School, class of 1964. She married Theodore Michael Burr on June 26, 1964 (later divorced), and their union led to their only two children, Brandon Michael and Brenda.
Marlene married the love of her life, Lawrence Richard James, Jr. on July 5, 1979. He was the only person on Earth who could quiet her torment and make her feel safe. They had a wonderful life together until his passing on March 19, 1993. Her heart was forever broken from that day forward, and there was no other man that could fill the hole in her heart. She longed for her sweetheart everyday until her passing. Their reunion on Sunday morning, March 2, was the fulfillment of her yearning, faithfulness, and efforts to ensure their marital union was blessed and forever.
Marlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and used the last years of her life to receive the blessings of the Temple and have her marriage to Larry solemnized for all time and eternity.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, LaVoy and Twila Pouslon and her sister Margaret Child.
She is survived by her children: Brandon Michael Burr and Brenda Tallerico, three sisters: Rae Lynn White, Rebecca Krowbath (Skip), Laurie Dawn, grandchildren: Brandon Lynn Burr, Colibri Maria (Coco) Burr, Genny Dee Burr, Hella Volsung, Brooke Amber Bennett, Breanna Larrie Holmes , and five great grandchildren.
Marlene was tough as rawhide and spring steel. She never backed away from a fight, especially when it came to her fierce desire to protect her own. She fought tooth and toenail until the end and rarely, if ever, lost a fight, fair or otherwise. In the end, she fought to be with her husband, Larry, and she finally won.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and residents of Hidden Valley Assisted Living, Serenity Hospice, and special expression of gratitude to Nikki, her nurse to the bitter end.
Rest easy, Dear Lady, your time of struggle and sorrow has come to an end. May the Lord bless you with all that you sought as your reward for enduring the difficulties of this life.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 6, at 2:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, UT 84092. A viewing will take place prior at the same location from 1:00-1:45 PM. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
