With deepest sorrow we announce Martin Hernandez, our most beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Cousin, and Friend has passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2024 in his home at the age of 61.

Martin was born in Roswell, New Mexico on July 12, 1962, to Maria De La Luz Salas and Jose Gardea Hernández . Martin lived the majority of his life in Salt Lake City, Utah with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Familia was everything to him.

Martin was a man of many trades. He took pride in his work and enjoyed working with his hands. He had a strong love for the Chicano culture, music, cars, and low riders. He was very involved with the car community. Cruising was his favorite past-time. His passion for travelling led to the most memorable road trips, last-minute get-aways, and vacations spent with those he loved most. He loved a good concert, good food and good company. He was never afraid to take his shot at luck. Wendover trips and Idaho lottery tickets always brought him excitement with the love of his life.

Where some saw scars, he saw art. Where some saw flaws and mistakes, he saw opportunity, beauty, and growth. Where some see with their eyes, he saw with his soul. His perception of life was never at surface level. The kind of man whose actions spoke for him. His depth spoke volumes. His love was unconditional. No matter the mountains you faced, he was right next to you, no questions asked, and with a smile on his face. A rare soul. That Vato was down.

Martin is preceded in passing by his parents, Maria and Jose Hernandez, and his step-children, Anthony, Jonathon and Rogelio.

Martin leaves behind his soul-mate Ursulita Marie “Sola” Lovato Hernandez, his children; Guillermo Enrique “Memo” Garcia Lovato, Ursulita Zenaida Hernandez, Martin Joseph (Shonda Clare) Hernandez II, his grandchildren; Martin Jay Hernandez, Joni Myrene Hernandez, Paulina Isabella Lovato, Anthony James Woodard, Christian Jordan Woodard, Tayvon Joseph Woodard, and Mercades Monic Lovato, and his siblings; Hector (Graciela) Hernández, Juan (Rosa Muñoz) Hernández, Patricia Juarez, and Leticia Hernández. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins behind.

Our deepest thank you, love and respect to our family, friends, and all for your condolences, and continued support.

A visitation and Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, January 25th, 2024, from 6-8 pm (Rosary at 7pm) at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.
