Marvin Sherwood Barrett

1936 ~ 2023

Marvin Sherwood Barrett passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023, in Payson, Utah at the age of 87. He was born January 23, 1936, in Hartsville, South Carolina to Marvin Barrett and Nezzie Louise Winburn Barrett.

Marvin joined the Marine Corps on July 8, 1953, at the age of 17. He served in the Korean war. He was a rifleman and competed on a national level where he received many awards. He later joined the Navy Seabees Reserves for 28 years.

Marvin married Rita “Ann” Featherstone in the Los Angeles Temple on October 28, 1960. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2019. They had five children: Michael Sherwood Barrett, preceded in death by Daniel Lynn Barrett, preceded in death by David Legrand Barrett, Gina Ann Barrett (Gordon) Blair, and Brenda Leigh Barrett (Wade) Sanders.

There are 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Marvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions within the church including Ward Missionary and serving in the South Jordan and Oquirrh Mountain Temples.

Marvin had a passion for Deer Hunting, Pheasant Hunting, and fishing. He made sure to make yearly family camping trips to the Payson Lakes area where his love for the outdoors was passed on to all the family.

Marvin resided at the Mervyn Sharp Bennion central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, Utah. The family expresses their sincere gratitude for all the staff; Nurses, CNAs, and Physical Therapy staff for the exceptional care they provided.

A viewing will be held on Sunday November 19, 2023, at the Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road Sandy, Utah from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Funeral services will be held on Monday November 20, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward house Located at 13381 S. Pioneer St. Herriman, Utah. A viewing from 10:00am to 10:20am. The Funeral will be held in the Chapel at 10:30am. The service will be available to watch online through Zoom using the following link:

A graveside service will follow at 12:30pm at the Sandy Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

We only knew Marvin for a short while at the Bennion Veterans Home.
He is so sweet and kind. When told me he loved me l knew it and felt it!
