Matthew Finian Nowell, “Finn,” (March 10, 2007) died peacefully on June 29, 2023, with his parents and brothers by his side.

Finn has had an amazing and inspiring journey. He is our miracle boy. He was born four months early and came home to his family after six months in the NICU. From such a small beginning, he grew into an amazing young man. Finn recently completed his sophomore year at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, UT. He worked hard in his classes, particularly honors math, and was a part of both the drama club and the eSports team. Finn recently earned his Eagle Scout award continuing the tradition his brothers, father, and grandfather set for him in the scouting program.

Finn loved playing video games, watching video game streamers, and talking about playing video games with his brothers, Parker and Tate. They often would chat and make jokes with one another online while gaming, screaming out of fear over something chasing them, or shouting strategies at each other about how to take down the enemy. Some of Finn’s favorite games included Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, Garry’s Mod, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Finn has had many amazing adventures and travels in his life. Some of Finn’s favorite trips have been to Disneyland and Disneyworld, to the Minecon convention in Orlando, Florida, and to Cincinnati, Ohio to visit his Discord friends and where he had planned a trip to this summer. Finn loved being with his family and cousins at Sunset Beach, NC, riding the waves on his boogie board and playing tag on the floating obstacle course at Shark Wake Park. This past spring, Finn visited South Korea and Japan where he fulfilled his dream of seeing Nintendo World. Most recently, Finn joined our family on a trip to Ireland where he learned that he loved riding electric bikes.

Finn is survived by his parents, Matthew McBride Nowell and Melissa Cromer Nowell, his brothers, David Parker Mancuso and Tate McBride Nowell, his “Gran,” Brenda Gay Watson and Grandpa Rick Watson, his grandpa Robert Wilson, “Grandpa Bobert,” his Grandma Novella Cromer, his great-grandmother Joan Cromer, and his many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Finn was preceded in death by his grandpa “Grumpy” Michael Cromer, and his Grandpa John Nowell and Grandma Janet Nowell.

A viewing for Finn will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 10:30 AM-12:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 W. 12600 S., Riverton, UT. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Very sorry to hear about Matthew. I've sat and thought about what words could be of comfort, none seem adequate. May God meet everyone grieving over Matt , comfort you and give you peace that only comes from the Creator and assurance that you will be reunited with him on the other side.

I’m so sorry for your loss and your super hero. I have wonderful memories of taking care of Finn and reading stories to him in my arms in the middle of the night in the NICU. I am so sorry to hear the passing of Finn. It has been awhile since we have seen each other but know that your family are in my thoughts and I am sending you all lots of love during this difficult time. It is not easy to have a child go before the parent and no parent should have to go through this ever. Finn is now your most precious gaurdian angel you will have watching over you all.

Love,
Alysha and kids

My heart breaks for you and Melissa. You are amazing people. We know that Finn is flying high right now. But it doesn’t change the fact that those he left behind miss him terribly. I love you both. Please know that Rhonna and I mourn with you.
