Matthew Thomas Coleman

1989 ~ 2023

Matthew Thomas Coleman, a beloved son, father, husband, uncle, and friend departed from this world on November 29, 2023. He was born on May 2, 1989 in Salt Lake City, UT to his loving parents Thomas Owen Coleman and Shauna Hill Coleman.

Matt was raised in Sandy, Utah. As a child he loved Thomas the Tank Engine and building Legos, always careful to follow the instructions on his “maps.” He loved visiting Grandpa Hill’s house and going for hikes in the surrounding hills to catch snakes. Matt enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially fishing and skiing at Park City and Alta. Matt was very active in Scouting and earned his Eagle Scout Award and 3 Palms. He graduated from Brighton High School in 2007.

Matt served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission. He loved the people he met and served. Matt attended and graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

He married Brittany Lynne Stainbrook on December 13, 2014 in the Draper, Utah Latter Day Saint Temple. Together they had three beautiful children: Brooklyn Rose, Claire Alexandria and Hunter Thomas. He dearly loved his wife and children and shared with them a lifetime of beautiful memories that will be forever treasured, ranging from simple moments such as building legos to biking the Hiawatha Trail or building sand castles at the beach.

Matt was a Vice President at First Utah Bank where he was involved in SBA loan underwriting. He loved his associations at the bank and enjoyed underwriting loans. He was also active in his Ward and was currently serving as an Elders Quorum instructor.

Matt was passionate about following and cheering for the Utah Utes, Utah Jazz and Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved talking stats, scores, players and everything football. Matt was equally passionate about his love of history, especially the World War II era and sharing his insights with his Dad.

Matt will be dearly missed by his wife and children, his parents, and sisters Katie (Terrell) Lee, and Pamela (Greg) Palmer, along with many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

In light of Matt’s sudden and unexpected passing, his family encourages all who read this to draw even closer to their loved ones, while seeking to develop a deeper understanding of their hidden, internal struggles and challenges.

Dear Coleman Family...
We were just heartsick hearing about Matt's passing. He's such a wonderful young man, and we absolutely loved serving with him in the Georgia Atlanta North Mission. What a beautiful life and family he and Brittany created. Know that our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with all of you. So thankful for the hope we find in the Gospel Plan and in the Atonement of Jesus Christ. And may years' worth of wonderful memories with Matt help see you through the most difficult days ahead. Much love to your entire family... President & Sister King

I am so shocked and sorry when I heard of Matt’s passing. No one really knows the struggles and headaches that people are going through and how life can literally change in a moment. Tom and Shauna, I will continue to pray for your family for the Peace and Understanding you deserve. I can not attend the viewing or the funeral as I have tested positive for Covid the last few days. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Shauna and Tom
Our hearts go out to you in the loss of your son. We know exactly how you are feeling each moment due to the loss of our son too. The pain is gut wrenching and the most severe pain we will feel in this life. But the good news we will see our boys again. We know there is nothing we can say or do to help you right now, except to say the pain will ease over time. You will learn to live with it, I guess, is the best way to say it. It’s going to take quite a while, but the daily pain does lesson. We know where these special boys are, and that gives great hope. When you are ready, we would love to visit you and share some of what has helped us. Our love and prayers are with you. And know your son is with you too. He is not far from you and loves you guys and his little family more than ever. Prayers and hugs at this most difficult time.
