Maurvene Skeem Chamberlain Corbett

Maurvene Skeem Chamberlain Corbett passed away on September 27, 2026 in Layton, UT. She turned 90 years old on September 21 st and was very happy to say she made it! She was born on September 21, 1936 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Marcus and Leora Skeem. She was the oldest of 9 children.

She was a faithful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She showed love, kindness, generosity and compassion to others. Her home was always open for family and friends to come and stay anytime. She was asked once what her perfect day would be and she said “My perfect day would be having my family or friends around visiting, enjoying food and playing Farkel, my favorite dice game.”

From the time she was a little girl, Maurvene loved to sing. In high school, she was in the choir and also sang with a group of friends that called themselves “The Sexy Six and Sal”. As an adult, she was able to sing with her mother in the group Singing Mothers in Boise and then later she sang with the Schubert Singers in Salt Lake City.

She really enjoyed reading all different types of books. Her favorite authors were Clair Poulson, Traci Hunter Abramson and Sara Eden. Some of the other things that she loved were watching Hallmark movies, doing jigsaw puzzles and showing off her Santa collection.

Maurvene married Herbert Lee Chamberlain on May 14, 1955. They had four children together: Shannon, Drew, Leah Gay, and Julie. They had planned to travel a lot after his retirement but Lee passed away too soon on July 17, 1982. He was missed very much.

She married Donald C. Corbett on September 2, 1995 from Choteau, Montana. They moved to Morgan, Utah a few years later. They were able to enjoy 8 years together.

Maurvene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her faith kept her going through the hard times in her life. She held many callings but her favorite one was the Primary music leader – she loved teaching the kids how to sing.

In 2007, she was able to travel around the world with her daughters and sisters. They visited New Zealand, Australia, Germany and New York. It was a trip of a life time for her and them! She also was able to go on a Hawaiian cruise and enjoyed seeing the Pearl Harbor Memorial, smelling all the wonderful flowers and putting her feet in the ocean.
Maurvene moved to Abbington Senior Living in Layton, UT in July 2024. She made lots of friends there and always had a treat for anyone that came to her apartment. At Christmas time, she loved showing off her Santa collection to the other residents and staff. They seem to enjoy seeing it as much as she enjoyed showing it.

She was especially grateful for all the kindness and help that she received from all the staff at Abbington and from Inspiration Home Health and Hospice!!! She told her daughter Julie many times “Make sure you tell them how much I appreciated them and that I loved all of them!!!” Hopefully everyone enjoyed getting her hugs as much as she did giving them.

She loved her family very much and was very proud of them. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Shannon Rigby, Leah Gay DeWester and Julie (Jeff) Pierce; her 7 grandchildren and their spouses: Brian (Sadie) Pierce, Nicholas (Nicole) Rigby, David (Rose) Pierce, Kimberly (Jeff) Reynolds, Jay DeWester, Michael (Nicole) Rigby and Myra Woodard; and also her 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Rae Von Flerchinger, Karen Nickle, Marilyn Hayes, Beth (Phil) Hoggan, and Scott (Terry) Skeem and her many nieces and nephews.

Maurvene was preceded in death by her husband Lee Chamberlain, son Drew, son-in-law Reynold Rigby, grandson Robert Rigby, parents Marcus and Leora Skeem, sister Cheryl Skeem, brothers Galen Skeem and Mark Skeem, and her second husband Don Corbett.

Services will be held Wednesday October 7, 2026 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary 1950 W Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, UT. Viewing will be at 9:30am-10:45am. Funeral services will be at 11:00am. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
