1934 ~ 2025
Melva Roach Adamson, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, in South Jordan, Utah. She was born on August 19, 1934, in Park City, Utah, to Earl Soren Roach and Amanda Burgess Roach.
Melva lived a rich and fulfilling life, defined by her deep love of family, unwavering faith, great sense of humor, and tireless work ethic. As the matriarch of her family, she worked hard her entire life to ensure those she loved were cared for and never went without. She built a successful career while gracefully balancing the roles of mother, grandmother, and professional—always putting family first and leading with strength and compassion.
She had a zest for life and a wide range of passions, including travel, ballroom and square dancing, crocheting, and reading. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Melva cherished temple service and remained committed to attending the temple even when her mobility declined. Her faith and family were the foundation of her life, and she found her greatest joy in gathering with loved ones. Affectionately known as “Grandma Mel,” she loved unconditionally—and those who knew her felt it.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Alan Patterson and Rick L. Patterson; her daughter, Sue Smart; and her son-in-law, Scott Smart. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will carry her legacy forward and miss her deeply.
Melva was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Copper Creek Senior Living and the many nurses, med techs, and staff who cared for Melva with such kindness and compassion over the past few years. She truly loved and appreciated every one of you—and so do we.
