Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Merlene Wilde Gundersen, was called home on July 20, 2022. She was born January 17, 1938, to Casper Wilde and Eva Lisle Wardell in Murray, Utah. She married Lynn Wallace Dansie in Paris, Idaho on June 25, 1955, and they had four sons together.

Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings throughout her life. She also worked various jobs while raising her sons including doing hair and nails, sewing, and catering. Her favorite job was teaching preschool at Challenger then at Children’s Discovery Preschool. She eventually retired from the Facility Maintenance department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She married Mont Gundersen on July 27, 2010, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they served a senior couple mission in the Salt Lake Winder Stake.

Mom had a gentle spirit and faced life with courage and quiet dignity. She was loving, patient, and kind, and everyone loved her. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a wonderful cook and had family dinners for every birthday and holiday where no one could possibly go away hungry.

Merlene is happily reunited with her husband Mont Gundersen, granddaughter Nicole Dansie, her parents, brothers Elwood (Woody) and Sherman, and sister Eva Maurine.

She leaves behind four sons who cherished her, Kevin (Sue) Dansie, Mark Dansie (Judy), Steve (April) Dansie, and Kirk (Zamir) Dansie; five grandchildren who adored her Angela (Rob) Hansen, Zoe Dansie, Jenna Dansie, Sadie Dansie, and Seth Dansie; one great-granddaughter who loved her with endless energy, Ellie Hansen; and her beloved sister Barbara Milne.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:45 AM on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S), Sandy, Utah, followed by graveside services beginning at 12:00 PM.

Merlene made our wedding cake as a wedding gift.. Best and most delicious gift ever!
Grateful to have been a recipient of one of her many kindnesses.

I was saddened to hear of Merlene's passing. She was an extraordinary woman and brought such a sparkle to wherever she was. She certainly was a jewel and bright spot for Mont. Rest in Peace. It was my pleasure to see you often and be in your company. We were family through marriage...My sister is married to Mont's brother and...I claim all the Gundersens'.

Dear Family,
So sorry to hear about your mom dying so soon after your dad. Your mom was a great lady. When I went to Highland Cove with my singing group to perform, your mom and stepdad were both there to help them with Family Home Evening.
I also remember that your mom and Helen Gygi made my wedding cake. It was a delicious carrot cake.
Wishing you all the best from LuJean Neff Schneider and Susan (Swaz) Neff.
Sorry we were not able to attend the graveside service!
