Michael Jerry Begay passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at the age of 77 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Michael was born on November 9, 1947, in Rehoboth, New Mexico. His parents were Andrew Begay Sr. and Ethel (Kee) Begay.

Michael enjoyed many sports, including golfing and fishing, and in his younger days, he played baseball, basketball, and football. In high school, he enjoyed learning about US history and war documentaries. He was fascinated with wildlife and was a horseback rider.

Michael attended and graduated from UCLA with an associate's degree. There, he enjoyed surfing, playing pool, and playing chess! After he graduated, he set off and fought in the Vietnam War.

Michael is survived by his wife, Bernice (Tsosie) Begay; children, Jerome, Che David, Christopher, and Monica Begay; and son-in-law Kershaw Benally Sr. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ethel Begay; his sisters, Esther Yazzie and Linda Parker; and his brothers, Andrew Jr. and David Paul Begay. Michael is also preceded in death by his daughter, Janice Marie Begay.

A graveside service will be held on September 18, 2025, at 10 AM at Utah Veteran Memorial Park (17111 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT 84065). A viewing will be held the night before on September 17th, from 6 to 8 PM at Larkin Mortuary (260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84111).

Michael will be missed by all those who got to know him.
