Michael Matthew Brosnahan

Michael Matthew Brosnahan passed away peacefully June 14, 2023 in his sleep. Michael will be remembered for being kind, gentle, and helpful. His sister Becky recalls how he took exceptional care of her through her monthly medical procedures over many years. There were numerous people who were blessed by his selfless service with helping them with moves, providing rides and taking those with physical challenges on errands. He enjoyed being with his family especially his nieces and nephews. Although profoundly deaf, he was gifted at lip reading. He often said that he was “not deaf but visually gifted”.

Michael was born June 24, 1976 in Los Angeles, CA, 11 minutes before his twin brother David. A huge part of his youth was playing baseball as a pitcher. His parents learned that he had an arm when the neighbors reported that he was throwing snowballs over their roof from our front door porch. He took a great deal of pride becoming an Eagle Scout thanks to a great scoutmaster and other conscientious scout leaders.

As a teenager he ran six to eight miles a day with his beloved dog, Sally which he called “salcy”. He graduated from Highland High School and seminary in 1994. Following graduation, he attended BYU on a scholarship. He was always learning and continued classes with the University of Utah and Utah Valley State College. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a young man served an American Sign Language mission in the New York, New York mission.

Michael was an avid reader and had a keen interest in astronomy. One of the highlights of his working career was being employed at the old Hansen Planetarium. He had an extensive library of books with topics ranging from physics, chemistry, and astronomy to music and emergency preparedness. He had a wealth of knowledge and read two sets of encyclopedias cover to cover. Michael was a proud extra class amateur radio operator. He enjoyed dressing up and going to the symphony with his mom and dad. Another activity he shared with his parents was becoming Community Emergency Response Team certified. He also had an interest in emergency preparedness and helping others with their emergency plans. He never wanted to miss out on a conversation and always had some advice to share along with the topics he enjoyed studying.

Because of his personal relationship with the Savior Jesus Christ, Michael grew to be a man of patience in his afflictions, patience with others and never judged. He grew to never anger or lash out and became a man of humility who loved others. He had a deep love for his brother Stephen and took personal attention to his needs and were roommates together for a while up until Stephen’s death. Michael loved his family and took the time to learn about each person’s interests. In the family photos through the years, Michael was in them all. He made sure to support family members and attended the events of his siblings and nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his parents Timothy T. Brosnahan Jr. and Gayle A. Brosnahan; siblings, Tim Brosnahan (Dana), Patricia Blotter (Scott), Gina Waddoups (Wayne), Becky Montgomery (Mike), David Brosnahan (Nancy), Katie Bidwell (Benny), Mary Ninow (Adam). He is preceded in death by his sister Karen Brosnahan and brother Stephen Brosnahan.

Funeral Services will be held at noon on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Crestview Ward, 2795 E. Crestview Dr., Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held that morning prior to the funeral services beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment next to his brother Stephen will follow at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City.
