Michael Ray Tew, 76, was born on December 3, 1946, to G. Ray and Betty Tew in Salt Lake City. He passed away surrounded by family on January 2, 2023.

Michael graduated from West High in 1964 and later attended the University of Utah graduating with a mechanical engineering degree. He started his first job with Richardson Engineering as a draftsman. He continued his 35+ year career as a mechanical engineer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He traveled the world designing mechanical systems for numerous facilities including temples, administrative buildings, Temple Square Central Plant, and the Conference Center. His extensive travel included 28 states and 31 countries.

Michael served his 2 1/2-year mission in Hamburg, North Germany, and held many church callings including counselor in three Bishoprics, stake high counselor, and Bishop. He was a man of high standards. He was detailed in his work, personal life, and constantly strived for perfection. He would often tell his children, “Do Well…Excel!”.

Michael met Pamela in 1972 while they both worked for the church. They married and had four children: Jonathan, Heather, Devin, and Rebecca.

In 2009, Michael retired and then started his own business named after his children, JDR Engineering. When he retired (again), he spent time with his grandchildren, completing house projects, working on the yard, and fixing the sprinklers over and over. There was no project too complicated for him. He took pride in learning new skills. Michael had a passion for cars. He never met a car he didn’t like, especially his prized Cadillac.

Michel was predeceased by his parents, sister Julie and daughter Heather. He is survived by his wife Pamela, sisters Cynthia Clifford, Malinda (Steven) Pierce, Cherylann Darrington; children Jonathan (Niki) Tew, Devin Tew, Rebecca Tew; grandchildren Adam Tew, Britney Tew, Paul Tew, Luke Tew, Declan Tew; and honorary daughter Lorena Mendoza.

Funeral services for Michael will be held at 11AM on Friday, January 6, 2022, at the Country Park 3rd Ward, 1988 West 11400 South in South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday night from 6-8PM at the Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton, as well as prior to services at the church Friday morning beginning at 10AM. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
