Michael Richard Saxey passed away peacefully on Friday evening November 3rd, 2023 with family members attending him. Mike was born in California in 1938 to Joseph Alfred Saxey and Ruth Higham Saxey. He moved to Utah with his mother and 3 sisters after his father died, to live with his Grandfather and Grandmother Higham. He grew up in the SLC avenues where he had many friends. He attended East High School and also worked part time at the Higham-Hilton Plumbing Co. He was loved by many as he was kind to those who needed help. His sense of humor and love for wittiness will always be remembered. He became a Master Plumber working for his Aunt and 2 Uncles until he went into business for himself, A Superior Plumbing.

Mike was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved serving in the Bishopric, as Elder Quorum President, and as Scoutmaster helping the boys become Eagle Scouts. He was a faithful home teacher and loved the families he served. Mike and his wife, Shirley served for 25 years as foster parents for the state of Utah.

Michael is survived by his wife of 66 years, Shirley Schloss Saxey, his children Sharleen Kunkel, Bret (Tracey) Saxey, Bart (Joy) Saxey, Todd (Lisa) Saxey, Maria Saxey and Robert Morrison, and his sister Diane (Richard) Carling and 24 Grandchildren and 32 Great-Grandchildren and many loved Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth Saxey, his sister Connie (Tim) Scheiving and Gloria (David) Lord, his daughter Cori Saxey Sweat, and his Grandson Jonathan Lee Kunkel.

Guestbook/Condolences

Mike was such a gentle soul to be around. He always made you smile and feel welcome. He could tell some stories that were phenomenal. I could sit and talk with him for hours. I was so blessed to have him give me a blessing in my time of need. He gave everything he had to serve others.
My condolences go out to Shirley and the family. He will be greatly missed.
