Mitchell Jim Houmand passed away on September 26, 2021 in Houston, Texas. He was born on September 7, 1963 to loving parents, Jim and Marilyn Houmand in Murray, Utah. He grew up in Draper, Utah where he attended Alta High School. Mitch was a friend to everyone; he especially loved his family and spending time with all of them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and riding his Harley Davidson. When he flashed that mischievous grin, you knew he had something up his sleeve. He loved being a prankster, telling jokes and making other people laugh. He was able to make a friend out of a complete stranger. He had a heart the size of Texas!

Mitch was a student of life, if he had a passion or interest in something he was a “genius". As a young boy, Mitch took a small engine that his Dad had thrown out because it wasn’t working. He got it running and used it to make a go-cart.

He left home at the age of 17. He married Marti Pratt, they became parents to Tiffany, and they later divorced. He moved to Pittsburgh to learn the ropes in the steel industry, and later moved on to West Virginia. He offered steel repair on-site and ran a mobile crew across the Eastern states, reconditioning current molds to prolong the life, resulting in a higher yield for the user. He then branched off and started his own fabrication company called “Houmand Welding”. It was founded in Weirton, West Virginia where he married Karen Shields, later divorced. This marriage brought Sareena Salazar into our family, who he later adopted. He then was offered the opportunity to work in Houston, Texas where he found his hidden talent and a successful career in the Oil Field. He had the skillset of a Mechanical Engineer. He never used specs or drawings in his work. He was always trying to improve things, such as a drilling motor. He designed a motor that covered not only high performance, but longevity, which is so important. Along with James Kraus, they were able to get a patent on a rotor to rotor coupling. He met so many great people in Texas, along with friends and family in Utah, which he truly loved.

Survived by: Tiffany Pitti (Mike) their boys: Laiken, Conner and Porter; Sareena Castillo (Carlos) their children: Adrian, Emily, and Sophia; His parents, Jim and Marilyn Houmand; Sister, Jami (Brad) Argyle, Brother, Mike (Sarah) Houmand, Sister (Marcy)Williamson; His nieces and nephews: Danielle (Seth) Dickison, Jackson (Mackenzie) Houmand, Erik (Grace) Houmand, Mitchell and Rachel Houmand, Tucker and Carson Cornia; His ex-wife Karen Houmand, along with countless other family and friends.

A Service/Celebration of Life will be held November 7th from 4-7 at the Day Barn 1166 E Pioneer Rd, Draper, UT 84020. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E Dimple Dell Road, Sandy UT 84092

Mitch, It’s so surreal to see your pic in the obituaries. This isn’t getting any easier. We miss you so much! You were an amazing brother and I’m grateful we grew closer together over the past several years. You are gone to soon! You know I’ll do whatever I can to keep your legacy alive (except fight 5 guys at the same time, maybe 3). I love you bro, I’ll see you soon!

Marcy & family: Words cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of your brother. Although I did not know him, I bet I would've loved being in his presence. I understand your pain of losing a brother all too well. It’s a void that cannot be filled but the memories are what hold us together with the understanding that they’d want us to live on and just be happy. Hearts, hugs and prayers to your whole family as you go through these next days, months and years. He’s up their with my pops and they’re smiling down upon you. Love you Marcy!
