Barton P North

1925 ~ 2016

Barton P North passed away peacefully on January 11, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bart was born on July 14th, 1925 to Perry Davies North and Lula Wright in Charleston, Utah. He was raised in Charleston with his older brother, Max, and his younger sister, Betty.

Bart was a member of the "Greatest Generation", and served honorably in the Navy during WWII on the USS Tennessee. After his military service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Wilma Edwards. They started and raised their family of five children in Salt Lake City. Bart's career was as a department manager at Mountain Bell. He was a handyman, inventor, tinkerer, builder, gardener, decorator, baker, musician, master tailor and artist. Many of his beautiful paintings hang in the homes of friends and family and will remain a living legacy.

Bart had the blessing of marriage to two amazing women in his life. His first wife Wilma (Willie) passed away in 1984. He later married Arba Hale Black who passed away in 2006.

Bart was a beloved bishop of the Parley's First Ward from 1973-1977. He and Willie raised their family and lived out their lives in the home Bart designed and built in 1965, in what he called,"The Best Neighborhood on Earth." Bart loved his neighbors and always welcomed them into the neighborhood with a pie or some delicious treat. William Wordsworth's saying, "The best portion of a good man's life is his little nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love", is still taped to his mirror to remind him daily of his dedication to serve others. We will miss his adventurous, charming, vibrant and gracious spirit.

Preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Lula North, 1st wife, Wilma Edwards, 2nd wife, Arba Hale Black, brother, Max North and son-in-law, Jack Walker.
