Fred Chester Gailey

1946 ~ 2016

Devoted husband, loving father and grandfather; Fred Chester Gailey passed away peacefully after a long five-week struggle with complications due to a ruptured brain aneurysm on May 23, 2016.

Fred was born December 27, 1946 to Chester B Gailey and Josephine Louise VanWoerkom. Fred is proceeded in death by his parents, sister Carolyn Grange, grandson Chance Chester Gailey, and son-in-law Brian Lavor Syddall.

He married Faye Cleveland on June 8, 1970. They were sealed for Eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 9, 1977.

Fred graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in the spring of 1970. He went to work at the University designing and building equipment used to aid in heart research. He loved that job and the research doctor was so impressed with Fred that he offered to sponsor him through medical school, but having known what he wanted to be since the age of thirteen, he graciously declined.

In 1974 he went to work for Utah Power and Light, where he remained until he took an early retirement to go to work for CCandE Engineers where he eventually served as President until his passing.

Fred was a man of many talents. He loved working with wood and anything that involved electronics. He was a licensed Ham Radio Operator since the age of 13 and built his first radio at the age of 14. He once helped a man contact his family after a devastating earthquake hit India in the 1980's. He was a man of great integrity. He was kind, generous, and compassionate. He loved his wife and was always at her side to support her in all things. He was a great example to his children. Always there to help them physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Fred loved his many nieces and nephews. He adored his grandchildren and found much comfort in them. He found satisfaction in helping others. Fred cherished his family and always tried to create great memories for them.

He is survived by: his wife Faye, his children: Robert, Robyn Syddall, Douglas and wife Amanda, Derek and wife Serena, Samantha and husband Nathan Allen, grandchildren: Hunter, Hayden, Kade, Cole, Ezekiel, Errol, Keaton, Aurelia, Bella, William, Oliver, a baby boy whom he was so excited to meet, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A special love and appreciation go out to the doctors and nurses of the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT, whose skills and compassion were so appreciated by his family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Crescent Ridge Stake Center 11000 South 1265 East Sandy, UT at 12:30pm. A viewing will be held from 10:00am until Noon at the Stake Center prior to funeral services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 South) Sandy, UT following the services.
